In anticipation of the reopening of the Megabreak pool hall in Pattaya, several employees have returned to their village in Isaan. One of the ladies, whom I have known for a long time, went back to Maha Sarakham to help her parents in the small farming business. She also spends a lot of time with children from her family and from the village, who are not yet able to go to school. She regularly sends me photos and this time it was about a day trip to the zoo in Khon Kaen.

I didn't know there was a zoo in Khon Kaen, so I looked it up on the internet. The Khon Kaen Zoo has also not been around that long, it only officially opened in 2013. It is intended as an educational center for the conservation of rare wildlife under the concept of a community forest, in which people and forests can live harmoniously. More than 50 species of animals from home and abroad can be seen from a "Skywalk" and a train runs over the vast area with a separate park for up to 300 deer species. There is also a seal show. The large water park has a swimming pool for adults and children, a slider and a 450 meter long whirlpool.

The website contains dozens of photos of the animals present and I noticed a beautiful animal, the pygmy hippopotamus. For some details about the pygmy hippopotamus I went to Wikipedia, where I read that in pygmy hippos the female is dominant. If the male does something she doesn't like, he's immediately dealt a blow. The male can therefore often be recognized by the many scars he has. Do you recognize that behavior in your circle of acquaintances? (Just kidding!)

My friend from Maha Sarakham reported that the trip to the zoo was very successful.

Indeed a nice zoo and water features. Located in the Khon Kaen region. Is a nice drive from Khon Kaen city towards Udon.

Zoo of Khao Suan Kwang, a not too big zoo but worth a look.
Is neatly laid out and you can view the animals on foot or by train.
The train driver/guide only spoke Thai so I didn't get it, but all the other Thai loved it and had a great time because they regularly laughed together.
Tigers (even an albino), birds, lots of deer, plenty to see

A beautiful little zoo, great to go to, there is also a very large open air swimming pool there. I went there with a friend who lives in kao suan kwang and she has a private school, she has a discount card that I also enjoyed. Definitely go, it's worth it.
