Chaiyaphum is a province in the northeast of Thailand in the area also called Isan. With an area of 12.778,3 km², it is the 7th largest province in Thailand. The province is about 340 kilometers from Bangkok. Chaiyaphum borders Phetchabun, Khon Kaen and Nakhon Ratchasima.

Chaiyaphum is not the most famous province in Thailand, despite being home to some of the best national parks. Especially it Mo Hin Khao in the Phu Laen Kha National Park is interesting: It is the Stonehenge of Thailand.

Unlike many provinces in Thailand, the best time to visit Chaiyaphum is actually during the rainy season when the famous flower, the Krachiao (Siam Tulip) is in bloom. These beautiful flowers are found in the Sai Ngam and Thepsathit National Park.

One of the Seven Wonders of Thailand is Mor Hin Khao, the Hill of White Rocks, often compared to England's Stonehenge. In this video you will get an impression of the beauty of Chaiyaphum.

Does anyone have more info and pictures about Chaiyaphum, including the sapphire markets that make that region so famous. I would like to visit those markets on my next visit to Thailand.

The nickname the Thai Stonehenge is largely incorrect, because the stone formations of Mo Hin Khao were formed by nature, while Stonehenge is the result of human hands.
The formation at an altitude of 765 meters consists of five pillars in nature with whimsical shapes. The boulders are about 12 meters high. Each pillar has its own mythological story.
A path leads to an area with many more smaller pillars with strange and rare shapes resembling mushrooms, boats, elephants, turtles... The stones were once invisible through dense forests.
You can camp there, but you must bring your own tent. There are sanitary facilities. Buy a cheap tent in the Big C and you will experience the evening and night of your dreams.
Chaiyaphum is unknown, but actually not far away from Khon Kean with an airport, a station and the Mittraphap: the main road 2 from Bangkok to Laos. Several hotels and resorts offer a shuttle service. The metropolis of Khorat is also not far away.
The capital is relaxed. There are parks, lakes, nice coffee shops, restaurants and bars. Not even Robbinson is missing.
Chaiyaphum deviates for an important part from the flat Isaan with the rice fields, because a large part is mountainous. . About 50% of the province is covered by forests.
Chaiyaphum is known in Thailand for its tranquility and natural beauty, best appreciated in its four national parks: Tat Thon, Phu Laen Kha, Sai Thong and Pa Hin Ngam with dense forests, breathtaking waterfalls, rocky mountain cliffs and fields of Siamese tulips. Despite all the beauties, Chaiyaphum attracts few tourists and certainly hardly any Westerners.
