The head, an important body part in Thailand
For Thais, the head, and especially the top of the head, is the most important part of the body. That is where someone's spirit (kwan) resides, the head and everything that has to do with it must be treated with respect.
Not all Thais think and feel the same. Here's a video of a Thai dancer mocking the theme of "sacred head and dirty feet."
This morning at breakfast in my hotel I counted no fewer than four men with baseball caps on their heads. One of them wanted to look even nicer and wore a large straw hat with sunglasses, while the sun completely disappeared this morning.
