A couple of friends have been coming to Jomtien for years and now plan to buy their own condo. However, they need a Thai bank account for the transfer of the money from the Netherlands to Thailand. We regularly read on this blog that opening a bank account in Thailand is very difficult. What do they need to open a Thai bank account here in order to transfer the money from the Netherlands to their Thai account in order to buy a condo?

Today my wife and I went to a Krung Thai Bank branch to open a joint bank account. In the end we did not continue because they indicated that we cannot get an ATM card. Only we could collect money together at the local branch, but of course this does not work.

For years I have read all reader questions and reactions with interest, but now I have a question that I do not see sufficiently answered in previous articles on this subject. I (41 years old) leave for Thailand in early March with a multiple entry 6 months tourist visa with the intention of eventually settling there permanently. Now I have written a letter to ABN AMRO for a number of practical matters and they now suddenly indicate that they want to close my accounts. At ING there also appears to be no option.

I've been Googling a bit, but with one you have to have a business, with another it is not possible in Thai Baht, with another it was possible at first but not anymore. Who knows where this is currently still possible as a private person?

I want to open a Thai bank account soon, where I can debit the Netherlands during my stay. My question is which Thai bank can I do that best, given the costs and the daily limit. This week I wanted to open a bank account in Thailand. I am 71 years old and have worked hard all my life. I have been coming to Thailand for 20 years but now want to stay in my own house for longer periods. Since I have hardly accrued any pension and also have little state pension because my (Thai) still has her own company in the Netherlands, I wanted to open a bank account and deposit 1 million THB into it. But I can't open an account. How am I supposed to prove that there is enough money if I cannot provide a Thai bank book?
