Deregistration from the Netherlands
In 2019 I decided to deregister permanently in the Netherlands. You shouldn't underestimate that. A simple letter to the municipality in the Netherlands where you are registered is absolutely not sufficient.
The Dutch government will negotiate tax treaties with Thailand
The Dutch government is constantly negotiating with other countries about (new) tax treaties. The overview that is published every quarter by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the countries with which negotiations are currently underway.
My name is Hub. I have known a Thai widow for a year now. She lives in Udon Thani. Visited her twice in 2019 and we lived together for three and a half months. This year I want to travel to Udon Thani for 6 weeks in March and then take her to the Netherlands for 4 weeks to get to know my family as well. For this I read on Thailand blog and requested information and forms and received them through the Dutch embassy in Bangkok.
New record year for Dutch and Belgian airports
The year 2019 was an excellent year for Dutch and Belgian airports. Most Dutch and Belgian airports set new passenger records last year.
Holland no longer exists, it is now The Netherlands
Where did you come from? I'm from Holland. Too bad. The Dutch government no longer wants that. From 1 January 2020, companies, embassies, ministries and universities may only use the official name of our country: The Netherlands.
Agenda: Film screening in the garden of the Dutch embassy
Message from the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok: The Dutch Embassy invites everyone to attend a film screening, an activity in collaboration with the EU delegation in Thailand.
Come on Cees, it's only temporary...
'Come on, Kees, it's only temporary, it will pass….' Leen Jongewaard once sang. It must have something to do with my nickname (even if it is with a C, but you don't hear that difference anyway) that this text from Annie MG Schmidt has been in my mind for a few days now.
Reader Submission: Her First Time (continued)
Our stay in the Netherlands has been behind us for some time now and my wife was a little nervous at first. How will it fare in a foreign land. But faster than I had adapted, about ten years ago in Thailand, she adapted to the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is doing very well economically and now even has the most competitive economy in Europe. This puts us ahead of Germany and Switzerland in the ranking of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The Netherlands is now fourth behind the new number one: Singapore. The United States and Hong Kong are in the top three. Belgium is in 22nd place and Thailand at number 40.
Economic overview Thailand – Netherlands first half of 2019
The Dutch embassy in Bangkok regularly publishes economic overviews of trade between Thailand and the Netherlands. The overview of the first six months of 2019 has just been published
Reader Submission: Her first time
Although we have been together for more than ten years, being together btw, because I lived half in Thailand and half in the Netherlands. My girlfriend had never been to the Netherlands at that time. Until the beginning of July this year.
Reader submission: Thai women are loyal to the Netherlands, committed to each other and to Thailand
The annual (since 2014) Thailand Grand Festival was held in The Hague in mid-July. See YouTube for various videos. My Thai wife had arranged to meet up with some Thai friends and acquaintances, and because it was already a few years ago, I went along. In my tour of the various festival offerings, I met several NL-TH couples. Some of them I have known for a while from previous or other occasions, others as partners of my spouse's girlfriends and acquaintances.
Now warmer in the Netherlands than in Thailand
You don't have to go to Thailand for the weather this week. The temperatures are more than tropical, it is not unlikely that the 40 degrees will be tapped in the Southeast Netherlands. Bizarre right?
My Thai girlfriend has been living in the Netherlands for six months now and has a residence permit, so luckily all those worries are gone. She has a 7-year-old son who we naturally also want to bring to the Netherlands. We hope to be able to start the procedure for his application soon. But now….. We thought it wouldn't be a problem to bring him here because the father has never been in the picture.
Thai woman (26) gets life imprisonment for smuggling more than 5.000 XTC pills from the Netherlands
26-year-old Ampika Patitang from Nong Khai province was sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday for smuggling 5.731 XTC pills from the Netherlands, two other suspects were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
I have a girlfriend in Thailand, and she wants to come to the Netherlands for a holiday for 3 months. This week I will arrange the comprehensive Schengen insurance and the plane ticket. I already have the warranty. Should she go to the embassy in Bangkok with these papers? And everything will be arranged further? Does she still have to pay for things to get her visa?
My question is addressed to Dutch people, who spend several months in Thailand (or elsewhere) every year, but keep their registration and accommodation in NL. I, living/registered in NL, go to my wife in Thailand for several months each year. During that period I will therefore not use my Dutch internet and TV, but will continue to pay the subscription costs for this because it concerns annual contracts. So I have to keep paying for a service I don't use. And that can add up.
