Waterfront project (Bali Hai pier)

Recently I visited the Phra Tamnak Hill again but forgot that it was the Chulalongkorn Day (holiday) and therefore quite busy. In itself it is a beautiful point, but the view is spoiled by the huge construction project, a skyscraper with a hotel and condos.

The 53-storey building offers condos between 10 and 100 million baht, with 80% already sold according to the developers. However, the fast buyers will now have to be patient. Construction has been halted. “Pattaya Watchdog” and others weigh in on the legality of construction. Various authorities are now passing the hot soup on to others who may have also – authorized or not – given permission for the controversial construction.

In the first instance, it concerns the height of the building, possibly up to 50 floors. But if you are in the vicinity of the building, 3 floors less means nothing. An initial EIA study, a kind of environmental protection document, did not contain any consequences and construction started. The building height was not even recorded. Mayor Itthipol Khunplume admitted when asked that not all rules and regulations in Pattaya were followed closely. A deputy governor in Chonburi would have already given permission in 2008 because there were no environmental concerns, not even from ONEP, which is responsible for this.

In short, the permission to build passed through many hands, so that no one feels responsible at the moment. However, it is agreed that this building does not fit into this landscape. How will this investigation by the police, military and city hall proceed?

It is possible that some drivers will start to feel a bit uncomfortable at the town hall.

Ridiculous Ridiculous that they want to put the mistake in the shoes of Cobi Elbaz the project developer.
They must immediately fire all Officials who have approved this, and they may also explain it to those madmen who are demonstrating on top of that mountain.
And anyone who says that this building does not fit in this environment, they should send to the moon.
Because this is the most beautiful building in Pattaya when it is finished, and not as ugly as the Hilton Hotel in Pattaya.
I hope that they will soon be able to continue building on this super beautiful project of the Tulip Group.
    Kind regards, Josh Pattaya.

Why would those officials have approved the construction and who would have handed over the reasons for that approval in an envelope?
I don't think the developer is going to go unpunished on this one.

But I guess that's the envelope, of course.
Normally, officials in Thailand would of course not handle such an envelope.

The view from the hill is one of the highlights of Pattaya. literally it is even the highlight, although of course many experience other highlights here.
The government is shooting itself in the foot by having this colossus built at this point. It may be nice for the people who will live there, but an insult to the hundreds of tourists who come here every day to enjoy the wide view. Money destroys more than we love.
