The "disorder" has broken out among the Nongprue residents. They no longer accept that they are no longer allowed to park at the Wat Boon Samphan as local residents and visitors. The temple employees treat people in an aggressive way. They have discovered a new source of income by making the Chinese tour buses pay parking fees and allowing visitors to buy drinks from them.

Visitors also complain that the money paid for parking is not monitored and some believe that it ends up with the wrong people.

After receiving the complaints, Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit and a team visited the temple to inspect the situation. Residents from 6 communities including Kao Noi 1-4 and Khao Talo 1-2 attended the meeting with Pha Kru Baideeka Chawalit Jatamaro, abbot of the temple.

The mayor now recommends appointing a temple committee made up of local residents from the communities that will administer the temple. This committee can then be kept informed of the temple's income and how it is being used, in order to establish a "transparent and orderly" process with the abbot.

Wanchai Sanngam, treasurer of Wat Boonsamphan, said he is in charge of the money and financial management of the temple by law. In answering complaints about the misregistration, he said he and three other employees count the money and record the amount in the temple's ledger for the abbot to verify.

He said the abbot then returns the money to Wanchai to count again. Every day all income and expenses are registered with the authorized signature of the abbot and can be checked.

It is not stated whether the Thai visitors to the Wat have already received more parking space. Nor how the "temple employees" are held accountable for their behavior. The cold is not out of the air yet!

  1. T says up

Temples, churches, etc. all the same story, it is often more about money and other peripheral matters than about the belief that people slowly do not believe in anything, so it is not so strange.
