Bangkok most popular travel destination in the world
The Thai capital Bangkok is the most popular travel destination in 2016, according to Mastercard's Index of Global Destination Cities. After Bangkok and London, Paris, Dubai and Singapore follow.
Thailand, the second largest economy in Southeast Asia, expects to break a new record with 33 million visitors this year. Bangkok alone is good for more than 21 million visitors. This metropolis therefore guarantees a flashy metropolitan lifestyle, in combination with a typical Eastern cultural activity.
Amsterdam is in thirteenth place worldwide, in Europe the capital is even in fifth place. The city only has to tolerate London, Paris, Istanbul and Barcelona.
The difference between the global top ten and the fastest growing top ten cities suggests that Asia, Oceania, the Middle East and Africa have become increasingly important to the global economic landscape. Many cities analyzed in the Index show increasing growth, with interest in both culture and life in the cities.
De Global Destination Cities Index published by Mastercard for seven consecutive years, measures the number of international visitors who stay at least one night in the 132 most visited cities.
Completely justified in my opinion.
Bangkok is my absolute number 1 of cities I like to be in, and I have visited almost every country and city in the world.
From a purely aesthetic point of view it is one of the ugliest and dirtiest cities in the world, but on the other hand it is incredibly fascinating, atmospheric, inspiring, and even romantic…
A truly phenomenal metropolis!
It looks like a match between 2 leaders London – Bangkok.
This year apparently Bangkok again according to the Global Destination Cities Index .
However, the city also has the dubious honor of being one of the unhealthiest cities
to be to be there.
The healthiest city would be Zurich with a dot at number one.
Dear pat,
I completely agree with you, every time I go to Thailand I spend a few nights in Bangkok, but if you have traveled as much as you say then you should have already experienced what HCMC has to offer these days, especially District 1. It has improved enormously, and district 7 is really worth a visit, I am not that crazy about the capital Hanoi, because first of all it is almost an hour from the airport, but it is still nice to stay there if you want to explore the city a bit. know and you don't know them after 1 single visit.
Been going to Bangkok for 4 years now, I have been living in Spain for a long time, ibiza, canarias, last years in Barcelona
Together with my girl (she is 42, I just 60) have a room in bangkok, whenever I'm there, and smoke my cigarette on the balcony, I look out over the skyline of bangkok, great, lived in Amsterdam for 25 years ., but eventually want to live in bangkok !
