Thailand has taken a new direction with the appointment of a female coach for the national football team. Nualphan Lamsam (Madam Pong) is probably the first woman in the world to train and coach a national men's soccer team.

Upon her appointment by the President of the Football Association, Mr. Somyot Poompunmuang, she has vowed to restore the pride of the national team – known as the War Elephants – which recently failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup to be held in Qatar late next year.

The last manager was Akira Nishino, who was sacked after the recent World Cup failure. The source notes that the Thai football team has changed coaches more often than football shirts.

Nualphan is currently the president of the Port football club, which plays in the Thai League 1. She sees no problem in a combination of both functions. Nualphan has already built up some reputation in Thailand by participating in the 2015 and 2019 world championships as the coach of the Thai women's team.

She advocates getting more money to increase the chance that she can successfully complete her first tournaments, the AFF Suzuki Cup and the SE Asian Championships in December and January.

That world first could have been for the Netherlands if the KNVB had not Louis van Gaal
but Sara Wiegman had appointed Orange coach, ha ha!

    But it is special.

Ms. Nualphan is not going to coach or train the national soccer team. She will be the manager and will be involved in recruiting a new trainer-coach, according to the Bangkok Post.

It's Madam Pang. And as Chris says, she's going to be the manager of the men's national soccer team. She previously held this position for the women's team.

By the way, this lady loves attention and will do anything to be in the spotlight.

It doesn't matter if a woman or a man is at the helm of the Thai national team as long as there is no stage on which to play internationally.
