PSV plays football in Bangkok

English football clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool are immensely popular with Thai football fans. These clubs know all too well how to do marketing in order to glorify the image of their club and to generate the necessary financial revenues from it.

PSV has also become aware of this and recently concluded an agreement with the Asian insurer AIA regarding a trip to Thailand. This largest Asian insurer is active in a number of markets in Asia and is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange.

It is a great opportunity for PSV to strengthen brand awareness in Thailand and Asia, and main sponsor Philips will also welcome the trip to provide the necessary publicity. From a financial point of view, the trip will also generate the necessary revenues for the football club. PSV was already a partner of the Football Association of India.

Preparation

PSV has closed the first half of the competition as 'winter champion', but there is only one title that counts: the championship. Trainer Dick Advocaat therefore considers the trip to Thailand as a good preparation for the second half of the season. PSV wants to distinguish itself by not only playing a few matches in Bangkok, but also wants to transfer knowledge. Workshops will be organized for representatives from Thai football in the field of youth training and management, among other things.

PSV will be in Thailand from 5 to 12 January and will play an exhibition game in Bangkok on Tuesday 8 January against SCG Muangthong United, the champion of the Thai Premier League.

@Joseph: who the hell wants to see PSV here????
If it were Ajax or Feijenoord, the stadium will be full!!

    • Moderator: I suggest not starting a fan discussion about football.

Any idea where I can buy tickets, or do people think it won't be a storm? In which stadium? Is there a chance of disturbances or is that only in the Netherlands? This question just to get a post, so the moderator doesn't whistle me for being too short 🙂

No idea about the tickets, but maybe through the site or stadium of Muangthong United?? After all, they are the opponent, so their fans will probably want to get in too.

I wouldn't worry about irregularities. Not that something like this is "typically Dutch", but it usually happens between rival supporters of clubs. Internationally a lot less.

Asia is becoming an interesting market for European clubs. Sponsors who organize and pay for mini-tournaments. The big money is no longer (exclusively) in Europe or the US and the willingness to organize this kind of thing is much greater in emerging economies than in Europe. Just look at the Futsol World Cup in Thailand 2012. Lots of positive worldwide attention and TV exposure. Wouldn't be possible in Europe anymore in terms of finances, I think. Maybe still in Spain, but the rest are not interested.

You also see many Snooker toppers giving demonstration parties in Thailand. They seem to make good money. In Bully's (restaurant near Sukhumvit soi 2 Bangkok) there is a poster almost every week about another snooker player visiting Thailand (often Bangkok and Pattaya).

And yes, I also like it when a well-known club or player comes to Thailand. So you see something!

Easy to say, but give it a try. Can Lowy also buy a ticket for me? I'll be in BKK on the 7th evening and see Dick on the 8th. This is similar to chat, but hope the moderator allows it. Otherwise you can email me. [email protected] has my address

Via the PSV fandesk I found out that PSV will play the match at 19.30 pm. Didn't get an answer where I can buy the tickets, but if they still pass it on, I'll report it. In the meantime I also understood that there is no Skytrain to this stadium. Does anyone know if there are buses going this direction or should I just take a taxi?

It shouldn't get any crazier. The PSV fandesk also does not know where to buy tickets and advises to keep an eye on the website next week. Now know why I am an Ajax supporter.

Does anyone know what hotel they stay in or where they train? My son is also staying in Bangkok at the moment and would like to visit them.

@ Carla I don't know, but maybe the Dutch Association can help you further. The URL is nvtbkk.org.
