Mobile phones and other digital platforms play an important role in the love life of young Thais.

Whoever sees young Thai standing or walking around in the Skytrian, a restaurant or on the street will in many cases also see that they are always busy with their phone. That's not for nothing.

Digital contact

The digital highway is a popular way for young people to get in touch with each other and to express their love for someone else. A survey by the Mental Health Department of the Rajanagarindra Institute asked young Thais what ways they approached potential romantic partners. Here the results:

  1. SMS and text messages (62%)
  2. Seek personal contact (52%)
  3. Hi 5 website (42%)
  4. MSN (38%)
  5. Email (32%)
  6. Facebook (15%)

.

And finally sex…

The survey results also showed that 73% of Thai youth believed that sending romantic messages to each other would eventually lead to sex.

That's right… The must-have apps for your phone in Thailand are pretty much Whatsapp, Viber and Line. Just say texting/chatting with your mobile. MSN is falling out of favor and Facebook has most of them anyway.

That is not news from Thailand, this applies to just about all young people in the world in areas where a mobile phone can be afforded.
but it struck me more that in the last time I was there you really see almost everyone between the ages of 12 and 50. Just about everyone is constantly busy calling SMS and so on, especially in Bangkok and surroundings. Almost even more than in the Netherlands
