About Baan Hollanda

Located in Ayutthaya, Thailand, Baan Hollanda is an informative cultural center and museum that highlights the historical relations between Thailand and the Netherlands. It occupies the original location of the seventeenth-century Dutch trading post, which was set up by the Dutch East India Company (VOC).

Baan means “house” in Thai, and Hollanda refers to the Netherlands, so the name “Baan Hollanda” can be translated as “The Dutch House”. The name reflects the shared history of the two countries that the museum exhibits.

At the museum, through exhibitions and multimedia presentations, visitors can learn about the trading history of the VOC in Ayutthaya, the lifestyle of the Dutch merchants who lived there, and the influence of this trading post on Thai-Dutch relations through the ages.

The complex consists of a main building with exhibition spaces, a multimedia room, and a library. There is also a café and a souvenir shop. The buildings themselves are a mixture of traditional Thai and Dutch architecture, symbolizing the bridge between the two cultures.

Baan Hollanda is an important cultural venue that recognizes the rich and shared historical connections between Thailand and the Netherlands. It offers a valuable insight into the past and legacy of early modern world trade, while also being a place for cultural exchange and education in the present.
