Dear Editor/Rob V.,

I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to. Mother and eldest brother of my Thai girlfriend (living with me in NL), would like to come on holiday in the Netherlands for 1 week at the end of the year. Do you know what procedure they have to follow to get a Schengen visa to obtain? The Thai family is wealthy.

Is it easier that I still guarantee them, or is it easier that they prove that they have enough money (I thought something of at least € 34 per day).

What is Wisdom?

Greetings,

Raymond

Dear Raymond,

The procedure and useful tips can be found in the downloadable Schengen visa file here on the blog. See 'Schengen visa' the menu on the left, on the page that opens you will find the most important points. You can download the detailed file below:

If the person(s) required to have a visa have sufficient means themselves (the Netherlands requires 34 euros per person per day), then I would advise them to demonstrate sufficient means themselves. An up-to-date bank book is then sufficient, which saves you paperwork. In that case, you should not fill in the guarantor part of the 'accommodation and/or guarantee' form, only the accommodation part.

The file should speak for itself. If you have any questions, let me know.

Have fun with all of you.

Regards,

Rob V
