On Tuesday 7 March 2023, the renewed Schengen Information System (SIS) was taken into use in all Schengen countries.

This is an EU system that helps with border controls and law enforcement cooperation between Schengen countries. It contains information about people who are wanted, missing, not allowed into Schengen or not allowed to stay there. Objects such as cars, firearms and identity documents that have been lost, stolen or used in crimes are also included in the system.

The SIS shows information about people who are wanted, are not allowed to enter or stay in Schengen, including return decisions for citizens from outside the EU. There is also a new function to preventively register people in SIS Recast to protect vulnerable people, such as children, against, for example, sexual violence, human trafficking or kidnapping.

The Borders and Security program has introduced the updated SIS in the Netherlands in collaboration with various authorities, including the Ministry of Justice and Security, the Ministry of Defence, the Repatriation and Departure Service, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, the National Police and the Public Prosecution Service. This program works on the implementation of European Regulations and the SIS Regulation was the first to be introduced.

Great though. A system for everyone who is not allowed.

It would be quite helpful if there were also a system to facilitate Schengen visa applications, especially for repeat applications. The US does that a lot better. A renewal of the visa is simply done online and quickly.

The EU Commission has been talking about this for a few years, but the introduction of a more or fully digital system will take a few more years. There is always one or the other member state that is in the wrong and without unanimous agreement and implementation, the EU will not get anything done. So all long term. The wheels in Brussels and the Member States turn slowly.

Quite rightly Peter, I'm getting sick of all the political likes and dislikes that are published here and there.
Stick to the topic, what you vote or don't vote is usually totally irrelevant.
