Dear readers, i8 insurers have now been fully processed. I still miss the major insurance groups: Eucare Aevitae, Zorg en Zekerheid and Eno Salland. Click here for the result.

Insurers with a CoE approval are: DSW, VGZ, ASR, ONVZ, Menzis and OHRA.

DSW (gets 4 stars) is the only one with the requested keywords [Covid, inpatient, outpatient] with the requested amounts [$100.000, 400.000 / 40.000 baht].

Short statements, even without amounts and not mentioning disclaimers or restrictions such as “Dutch rate” or “lowest nursing class” help with approval. See VGZ, ASR, ONVZ, Menzis and OHRA.

These insurers receive 2 stars, except OHRA – 1 star. OHRA refers to policy, without defining what is reimbursed.

Insurers with CoE rejection: Bewuzt VGZ and ZK Achmea.

ZK Achmea [I think all Achmea subsidiaries such as FBTO, who use the same statement], has the biggest problem: is the only one with a bold disclaimer [section G]. Uses a lot of text and restrictions such as “Dutch rate”.

It is better to leave this out like the insurers that do have a CoE approval. Achmea gets 3 crosses, because of the 3 factors mentioned. Consciousness gets 1 cross, because of only 1 limitation.

Some readers say that there is arbitrariness. That statements are rejected, where others have been approved. I want to see evidence for this.

Call: do you think there is arbitrariness, please send your statement with context [type of visa, length of stay, date of CoE result] to [email protected].

Finally, complaining does help. See VGZ example. In 2020, VGZ gave the restriction “lowest nursing class”. This was removed after complaint. Bewuzt, a daughter of VGZ, has exactly the same VGZ 2021 statement in 2020. So if you are a customer of Bewuzt, pick up the pen!

    Dear Eddie,

Thanks for this info unfortunately you can cross out menzis is not approved by embassy.
I now have OOM insurance, which is extra insurance and now I have to wait and see.

Hans, please send me your statement with context information. Because it was accepted from someone else in September.

With your information, I may be able to demonstrate whether there is arbitrariness. I can't draw any conclusions without an explanation

      Thank you for your contribution!

My CoE application was approved yesterday with the same Menzis statement as a year ago. Just a different date on it.
That must be arbitrary. Or the fact that I've been coming for years in a row.

    Hi,
Thanks in advance for the extensive research work!
Anyone have an idea and preferably from experience about Etihad's covid insurance that you get when you buy a plane ticket. And how to prove?

    regards
    Alain

The insurance companies Menzis, Centraal Beheer and AIG have refused to mention the 40.000/400.000 baht.
All 3 statements have been rejected by the Thai embassy in The Hague, although the statement states that ALL costs, also related to covid 19, are covered.
    It concerns flights to Bangkok.
Different rules apply to the Phuket sandbox.
You just watch what you do with this information. I'm not sending any papers.

      Judith,

I only make an inventory of NL health insurance policies. So can you check whether your Menzis statement is the same as what is in my inventory?

If so, when was the rejection? And does the rejection concern a visa application or a CoE application? My inventory relates to a CoE request that is handled centrally in my opinion

  4. Eddy says up

I had planned to only make an inventory of NL health insurance [including Menzis] and CoE applications.

Can you provide some more context regarding the rejection of Menzis? Was it a visa application or a CoE application?

I think a visa application, because the embassy gets more time to assess and can therefore be more critical, while the requirements on paper are the same - depending on the type of visa, but regardless of which route you take.

If you look at your Menzis statement, does it match the statement in my inventory?

    • Do says up

Sorry I can't scan but I sent my Menzis statement at the beginning of December 2020.
This was initially rejected, but after telephone contact with the Thai Embassy
      approved anyway.

        Want to,

Do you have a smartphone? Then take clear pictures of the relevant pages, possibly cross out the personal details with the limited editing options of the photo app, and send them to Eddy: [email protected]

There are also apps for beautifully photographing documents. Eg. Microsoft Lens.

Is this overview only for Dutch people and Dutch insurance companies or will a Belgian section be added later?

    Eddie,
All approved are re-entries or visa exemption. So without the intervention of the embassy, but directly via CoE. So it is measured with 2 sizes. In 2020 there was not yet a 100.000 usd etc obligation that was introduced somewhere in the first half of December 2020. My conclusion based on this information is therefore; if you are applying for a visa exemption or a re-entry, an English-language statement, without additional added restrictions, is apparently sufficient for a CoE. But with a visa with a visit and assessment by the embassy, you are at the mercy of the relevant official who looks at the amounts. Also, for example, an O visa extension in Thailand is not asked for insurance.
    Greeting.
    Matthew.

  7. Dirk says up

I think length of stay and visa class also play a role in the approval.

You did a great job Eddy. We have been at DSW for years to our full satisfaction, so that's a good thing.

What I can't find so quickly is how old such a statement can be, to apply for the CoE at the embassy. Our policies are valid for one calendar year. So if we want to go in January, for example, then we should request that statement in mid-December, I think.

    • Jos says up

No Frank. You can only apply for this in January, when your new policy starts. Otherwise, you could submit that application in December and switch to another healthcare provider when you have that statement.

      • Matthew says up

You can simply apply in December. No problem. I had also applied for and received my statement in December, while I only used it in May.

  9. Jos says up

Got this statement from DSW today:
Thank you for your e-mail. Due to the crowds, our response took longer than usual. Our apologies.

Indeed, in our English language statements, these are referred to as the amounts of $100.000, 40.000 THB, and 400.000THB. We would like to point out that this is based on our conditions of 2021. Our conditions may change annually. We advise you to wait for the conditions for the new year.

You can switch to us as of January 1, 2022. You can register via our website, http://www.dsw.nl.

For any questions you can of course contact us.

    Yours faithfully,

    Rosy Gomes Almeida
