This morning Line showed the attached photo, made in the Tam Luang Park near the cave where the football players were locked up.

Saman Kunan is the diver who lost his life in the rescue. The statue represents the diver in a group of wild pigs named after the football club (Moapa academy – wild boars).

People who don't know the story of the rescue will wonder what that strangely dressed gentleman is doing on that pile of pigs!

    An unimaginative portrayal!

Dear I. Lagemaat, Unfortunately, the text on the foot of the monument is difficult to read, but I assume that this text also serves to bring those who have less imagination a little closer to the death of these heroes.
With many people who have followed the event from the media, the name wild boar (moa paa) is what this football club was called / is called, even without further explanation.
Also that the person is a diver, and not a strangely dressed up gentleman, is more than obvious to most of us, I think.
Tastes differ, but I personally think it is a beautiful, deserved, and clear statue.

Nice tribute to the deceased diver. I see that there is a Thai text with it. Perhaps an English text could also be added. Then it will be clear to more people.

The image was posted last Friday. On Thursday, the transport arrived at the White Temple – Wat Rong Khun – in Chiang Rai, and on Friday morning it was transported to its final destination.

Coincidentally, I was at the White Temple that day and witnessed the entire transport event up close. Very busy though, Channel 7 was also present. Multiple drones were used, apparently to show everything on TV.

Tragic, his death… I had followed the whole thing and think this is a nice honorable memory. Still, I would also like to see a reference or reminder of all the hundreds of people who helped. There is little to see at this beautiful statue…

It is typically a statue in the Thai (perhaps with Chinese background) way of hero worship. I'm not a big fan of this kind of (realistic) art that reminds me of ancient communist regimes, but ok.
What annoys me a bit is that only 1 person is taken from the group of heroes, probably because he died fatally. In my opinion, there would have been much more to be said for a more abstract image that would do justice to all the heroes and to the international character of the rescue operation.
The worst is to be feared about the content of the film being made about this cave rescue operation. Many Thai heroes probably and in the margins some foreigners.

Indeed it would have been better to thank all helpers with a statue or plaque.
The divers are honored in the palace. I don't know about the other helpers.
