Reader submission: New cycling meeting point in Lopburi, initiative of a Dutchman

The new cycling meeting point will be officially opened this Sunday at 9.00:XNUMX am in Lopburi. The meeting point was realized by a farang from the Netherlands.
Jan Haselbekke says: “I created the meeting point for cyclists to bring cyclists into contact with each other. I am a fanatical cyclist myself, both on the road bike and mountain bike. The meeting point offers the possibility to leave and end together with a group and to have something to eat (non-commercial).
I've been in Thailand for 1,5 years now and I thought I should do something to promote this sport even more. Because in the Netherlands I was a member of the cycling club 'Ruiten Drie' in Almelo, and I was there in all kinds of organizations such as the 'Hel van Twente' and the 'Lageveldtoer', I was also road captain there.”
The official opening is this Sunday at 9.00:XNUMX am, everyone is welcome.
Nice initiative! Where in Lopburi it is is not mentioned, but looking at Google Maps it is at least a 650 km cycle from my 'base' Chiang Rai – I won't make it before next Sunday…..
You see the popularity of sport cycling slowly growing in Thailand; here in the north I mainly see – sometimes large – groups on racing bikes and MTBs on weekends. On Sunday I was overtaken at a traffic light by a racing bike group of at least 25 men/women, mostly Thai, with a few Farang in between, all on first-class equipment.
For people who are unable to come to Lopburi, the Meetup app may be a solution. Depending on your interest, you can participate in activities that may be closer to home.

Nice initiative and sports cannot be promoted enough. Good luck with this and have fun with the bike rides and being together. Watch out for traffic and ensure safe routes.
Fantastic idea Jan,
I myself cycle through the woods and jungle of Isarn, because I live there.
Would like to participate, but unfortunately: just a little too far.
You write that you are from the region of Almelo, so not from Nrd- or South Holland.
We know that those are 2 of our Dutch provinces, but now the rest of Lopburi thinks that Holland is really our “Country”.
But the Dutch will appreciate this.
Hey Jan and Wi,
Nice to meet you on this blog. As soon as Thailand is open again, we will certainly visit to cycle around and I invite you to play a round of golf at Narai Hill near you or perhaps a combination, On the mountain bikes to the golf course. With your efforts it must be a success there.
Greetings, Alex and Suwan Oet Wierden
Nice initiative. Once (31 years ago) I was the first to take a road bike from the Netherlands to Patong Beach. By now my neck and back have become worn out. Despite the heat doing me good here, certain postures are very painful and movements are locked. Have just moved to Kok Sarong as is nearby. I used to live in Ban Phé along the coast / beach near Rayong where there is a lot of cycling. I think I'm going to try it again and see you sometime. Enjoy the camaraderie among the cyclists.
