Finally I can go home. As previously reported, I arrived in Bangkok on Saturday, August 8 and was transferred from the airport directly to my ASQ corona hotel Siam Mandarina in Samut Prakarn near the airport for my 16-day quarantine.

What are my experiences? On Tuesday, August 11, the 1st corona test and the next day, negative. So from Thursday reserve an hour every day on the terrace by the pool and an hour in the SkyGarden. These hours outside are very good.

On Wednesday 19 August my 2nd corona test and negative on Thursday. Well, and then. You know you don't have corona, that nothing is being tested anymore and you still have to stay until Sunday. That takes long. Fortunately I had brought my laptop to Thailand and this turned out to be a precious possession all those days.

I have maintained a fixed rhythm every day as much as possible. Get up at 07.30:08.00, temperatures at 08.30:1,5 and send photo to the Line nurse, approx. 11.00:13.00 breakfast. Then a cup of coffee and the laptop on. Do some work, or organize my saved photos and videos, etc., maximum 1 hours, 16.00 a.m. terrace, 17.00 p.m. lunch, then rest and re-laptop, max 18.30 hour, XNUMX p.m. Sky Garden, XNUMX p.m. send temperatures and photo again, approx. XNUMX pm dinner. Read a book in between and after dinner. This fixed rhythm always brought me smoothly through the day. So it's fine to do, only the last few days you long for the end.

Furthermore, the care in the hotel. Every evening you choose what you want to eat from the next day's menu. Plenty of choice and something different every day. The difficulty is apparently keeping the meal warm, because that was sometimes disappointing. Furthermore, the room service is very bad. Ordering a cappuccino in the room or on the terrace can take half an hour to an hour, at least when it comes. What I missed those days is simply a biscuit with the coffee. There are no snacks, so only the three meals. A biscuit with coffee would be nice. But oh well, the goal is achieved, I'm home.

What has that quarantine cost you now?

I wonder what it will cost you?

I just read the story, and did you also take some extra chips or other things with you in your luggage because you didn't get anything there, but here is also a question, my wife is also going to Thailand and she is Thai, so she received an email from the Thai embassy in The Hague in Thai she would now also have to pay for the hotel or is it free.

    • That has been discussed here a dozen times. For Thai it is free.

      • rob h says up

        Maybe for completeness.
State Quarantine is free for Thai.
Alternative State Quarantine (for foreigners, but which Thai can also opt for) is not free for them either. Some hotels do give Thai a discount on the “farang” price.

    Well,

    That was also my question

Does travel insurance cover the extra costs incurred in the event of quarantine or is there no insurance for that, I wonder?
And do you have to pay all that out of your own pocket, or can you recover that from somewhere that costs you incur or am I seeing that wrong??

    • Pay yourself of course.

      • Caspar says up

        Insured as standard

Unforeseen expenses, even if they are caused by corona:
Extra costs for necessary longer stay
        Cost of quarantine

        • haha, well quickly to Thailand and claim with your travel insurer. Think carefully. This is of course about the costs if you unexpectedly become seriously ill due to corona. And it must always involve emergency care. Call your insurer and they will confirm.

You said it yourself: unforeseen costs. Quarantine costs are currently not unforeseen.

    • Cornelis says up

Why should travel insurance reimburse the costs of something you choose yourself? At the moment, quarantine is just a fact if you can / are allowed to go back.

If you go on holiday outside Europe for a maximum of 3 months, then the Mutas insurance is there, they also cover Covid 19. The insurance is available for free if you are affiliated with the De Voorzorg mutuality. Admittedly this is for the Belgians.

I also wonder what it will cost you?

In fact if you can avoid that quarantine it is an absolute must. Your story seems rather light-hearted, but I think you are certainly a brave man to have to go through this. Once it's over, I don't think it's easy to forget. What is also missing : what was the cost ? Not even something you have to process?

    Best,
can you let us know what you paid for this yourself.

    Hi Theo,
I have until Sunday morning. Tomorrow the last corona test. I have a luxury hotel for 55000 for 15 days as all the cheaper ones were full. Furthermore, some bad luck as I did not receive the introductory email nor the introductory book in the room. So it was only 9 days after my second hour outside that I knew from someone else that I could choose from many menus for the afternoon and evening and from 2 types of breakfast. Please register before 5 p.m. for the next day. Unfortunately, that luxury only started later for me. This also meant that I did not have the general app, but I did have the nurse app, very sweet voices, but they also only have temp. and corona test in progress and don't know about everything else. When I asked the day before yesterday how my first corona test had turned out via the nurse app, they were surprised because I wouldn't have it until tomorrow and because I told them that I was going home on Sunday, a message quickly came back that that was not possible yet. because I hadn't been outside yet, that had to be sorted out first. Well, I just sent a message to the lovely ladies that I was outside at that time and that I had been up for an hour every day for 14.00 days. And then there was silence. By the way, Theo, here it is only an hour a day with two sports equipment, artificial grass field and beautiful garden on the 5th floor.
Now after I found out that I had missed a lot. an email to the general manager. Within 10 minutes I received an email with apologies and I was immediately called and everything was done to make it right. But yes, that doesn't help you much after so many days. Here too, the food is often cold, I have sent it back 6 times now and since my report I now receive food on time and really hot food. I have the impression that they forgot to register me.
Let the GM know anyway that I expect something in return in money, given that I really have had nothing of the luxury of a nice luxurious room with often cold food and hardly any information and contact internally for only two thirds of my time. .
So for those who still have the chance to come here. I think you are entitled everywhere to min. 1 hour from the 7th day to leave the room. Choice of various menus,
I am at the Grand Richmond one of the ASQ hotels. With all facilities and everything around it normally a reasonable price.

    Theo is home

Jan, so the last stretch for you too. Persevere and focus on the last day so that you can be with your loved one(s) again. Enjoy the upcoming stay at home.

    Dear Theo,

Thanks for the info. I find it very interesting.
    It gives me an idea.

I assume this situation will continue for months.

As long as the corona figures remain bad somewhere in the world, it will remain difficult to enter Thailand just like that…

    Regards,

    Daniel M.

Below is a response to the many questions and comments from readers.

    What are the costs?
As I reported in an earlier message, the total price for the hotel is Thb 45.000, so say
€1.250. That includes 2x corona test, 3x daily food and contact via Line with the Line nurse for the 2x daily temperature measurement. The one-way flight ticket cost € 700. Afterwards I had to pay Thb 1.135.
pay extra for laundry and cappucino brought to the terrace a few times. And that was it.
Again I limited myself to the 3 meals a day and did not order any extra food. On Sunday morning a message came that, in response to complaints, one could order online at the opposite 7-11 and the hotel will then provide delivery to the room. So then, among other things, the snack story is also filled in.

Does travel insurance cover the extra costs? No, in fact, Thailand is still code orange, so my travel insurance doesn't cover anything at all.

My story may sound light-hearted, but I can assure you that it was not a traumatic experience. Choose a daily rhythm and stick to it and focus on the last day.

Idd many travelers forget that if a country is classified as dangerous by NL (code orange > Red), the insurance company pulls its fingers off it.
If you are already there you can often come back at their expense, this also depends a bit on when you booked it, before or after March.
If you go while the country is already orange, then all costs are for your own account, especially with regard to corona, so hospital, flight, lockdown, hotel, etc.
This has been confirmed by my insurance (I have 2 private and business).

Which makes me wonder how you can prove that you have a mandatory "corona cover" to travel in Thailand.

      • Ger Korat says up

I have health insurance from CZ and I have a foreign statement from them in English with the message insured against Covid-19: “The insurance conditions also apply to care following a Covid-19 infection”.

They also state this on the statement: “The exact cover provided under this health insurance policy can be found in the terms and conditions of insurance”. “A general maximum reimbursement does not apply”
The latter means that they reimburse all necessary medical costs without a maximum that are related to your health insurance policy and its conditions. This way you meet the minimum requirement of USD 100.000 coverage that Thailand sets for a medical insurance policy. Health insurance companies are not allowed to state amounts and CZ indicates this as such.

The destination is also on it, Thailand, as well as the period I expect to be in Thailand. I have taken the period broadly assuming that the granting of an entry permit (COE) and the actual arrival is uncertain, and the period then covers the moment of application to the embassy for permission up to and including the expected length of stay in Thailand. that I could get a new statement at any time if the period changes or is fixed. After telephone consultation with CZ, I had the actual statement in my email within 1 hour.

Since Thailand has code Orange and that implies that it is a high-risk area, travel insurance is indeed of no use to you if you travel there because it is written: not insured. And that applies to everything, including luggage and other costs. Better stop if you use it for Thailand because you save money and only take out a new travel insurance policy when it is insured again
