I've gotten some good responses to my question here in this blog which standard insurance statement have been recently accepted by the Thai embassy for a Certificate of Entry [CoE].

In order of most recent adoption, here are the results of my question:

  • DSW, Sept 2021
  • University, July 2021
  • VGZ, May 2021
  • FBTO, Oct 2020

We hereby call on those who have received a CoE on the basis of such a statement to share this statement anonymously [without name/address or other private information] with us. It is possible that your insurer is not on the list above.

With this action I hope to achieve the following:

  • readers may decide to switch to another insurer based on the results [I am one of the interested parties]
  • that readers get ideas for starting certain improvement proposals with their insurer or association of insurers

I am willing to compile such a list of statements and post it in a subsequent blog entry. I do need your cooperation with this:

  • Send a photo that is as sharp as possible or a digital scan of the statement and send it to [email protected]. I make sure that your private information is not shared. PS. I have created this e-mail address especially for this promotion. I am not an employee or volunteer of Thailandblog.nl
  • Indicate the date on which you were awarded the CoE with this statement
  • If a CoE was denied as a result of the statement, also send the statement with the date of rejection. I will make a separate section with rejected texts.

    Dear Eddie

I think this is a great idea
Happy day Peter Yai (ps maybe mention some numbers? I'm at the IZA myself)

  2. Jan van der Broek says up

    Maybe include the amounts.

    Good deal in itself.
For the sake of completeness, I do mention that I will not interrupt the handling of my complaint with SKGZ because it is now about to make a decision.
A comment: In my opinion there was no CoE in October 2020, so how do you explain the Statement of FBTO 2020? Does anyone know when the CoE was required? I can't find it anytime soon....

    • Willem says up

I have travel insurance with FBTO. I have requested a CoE statement as referred to above. On 19-07-2021 I received the following answer.

We will send an English statement. No amounts are mentioned therein. This is because the amounts are not maximized with us.

My letter from the FBTO was also accepted by the Thai Embassy in January this year. But then Thailand was not ¨Orange¨ but yellow. With very few infections. It seems to me that if I used the same letter now it would not be accepted because Thailand is now classified as a high risk country.

    • Cornelis says up

In my opinion, no longer accepting the statement is separate from the level of risk. At the end of last year and earlier this year, the requirements regarding proof of insurance were the same, but the standard statement without amounts was accepted. At some point they stopped doing that.

    top promotion,

as mentioned earlier, CZ is unwilling or unable to cooperate, so a good opportunity to switch.

    Thanks

  6. Frank says up

Will Menzis also participate in this? Or does he come?

  7. Hans van Mourik says up

An acquaintance of mine, first name Theo, last name I don't know, arrived here in Changmai in October 2020.
Insured with CZ, with English statement without the amounts.
But then it was not yet necessary at the Thai Embassy.
Don't know if it is the Coe, but he had to spend 14 days in Quarantenne in Bangkok.

The first statement is already in.

I put all results in this format for now:

Your contribution is very welcome to be included in this spreadsheet!

Good initiative. But only statements from 2021 last year were still accepted without the USD 100.000 mention. I'm very curious.

    • Cornelis says up

Beats. In December 2020 I effortlessly received a CoE based on the standard statement without amounts from the Silver Cross.

Please also provide the English statement of the relevant insurance company.
Since I also had such a statement from vgz but was rejected.

  12. Jan S. says up

    Hello Eddy,
I will send the DSW statement to your email address.
Just a supplement that DSW reimburses except for the treatment against Corona, but for other diseases
the medication is also reimbursed for 100%. That is why I do not take out extra health travel insurance.

    • Cornelis says up

Curious if DSW actually mentions the desired amounts.

      • TheoB says up

        Cornelius,

Because Jan S did not respond to your request in the first and second instance, I presented this problem to my insurer DSW.

        My message:
“I want to apply for a Certificate of Entry (CoE) at the Thai embassy in The Hague to go to Thailand.
I need a statement of health insurance for that. This statement must state that during my stay in Thailand I have health insurance for at least 40.000 baht outpatient and for at least 400.000 baht inpatient and for Corona related health insurance for at least US$100.000.
My question is whether DSW is prepared to provide me with an insurance statement in which those amounts are explicitly stated.”

        Response from DSW:
“We can issue this statement and the amounts are as requested by Thailand. To request this for you, I need the date of your departure and the date of your return and your e-mail address to which we can send the statement. I like to hear it! Regards, R”

Another proof to me that I am in good hands with this insurer.
She works for the insured, not to make as much profit as possible.

PS: great initiative from Eddy. This gives us an overview of what people in the insurance world are prepared to do.

        • Cornelis says up

Thanks, Theo! Is clear now. I actually thought that the insurers drew a line, but apparently that is not the case. Too bad that switching is only possible on January 1…,,,.,

  13. Mart says up

    Hi Eddie,

Great initiative, after reading I immediately went to Univé Assen and presented it there, after some calling with ? I was assured that as soon as I know departure times, all I have to do is call and the English statement will be sent to me. Hope in Oct. to arrive

    Am very happy today, Thanks
    Kind regards, Mart

  14. Bob says up

Leave your responses, but I would very much appreciate it if the complete statements from DSW and Unive were posted here, so that no one can do anything with them. Personally, I would like to see a statement from VGZ, since I am insured with a daughter... I am traveling in 3 weeks so I won't waste any more time... thank you very much

  15. Hans van Mourik says up

Theo, great of you to ask, now provides some more clarity.
But something is missing, they do it too, when Thailand is on orange or red for the Netherlands.
    With the amounts?
    I haven't seen that question
    Hans van Mourik

    • TheoB says up

      Dear Hans,

With DSW I only have the basic insurance and an additional package. There is worldwide coverage of healthcare costs up to the reimbursement level for the Netherlands, regardless of the travel advice.
The medical costs component of a travel insurance policy reimburses healthcare costs above the reimbursement level in the Netherlands. Furthermore, there are other elements that can be included in a travel insurance policy, such as luggage, search and/or rescue, accidents, repatriation, forced extended stay, death, etc.
Travel insurance does not reimburse if the trip to an area (in our case Thailand) is started after the area has been declared unsafe (orange/red) by the Dutch government.

      Is it clear now?

      • traveler says up

The following is stated on the site of the Thai embassy.

The insurance must clearly state that traveling to a risk area (travel advice color code: orange or red as indicated by the Dutch government) has no influence on the scope and level of the COVID-19 cover.

My FBTO health insurance does not provide a covid reimbursement if there is orange or red in the country of arrival. It is a bit different if during your stay in Thailand the color changes to orange or red.

In all the above responses, I have not seen whether insurance companies want to state in the English letter that the orange or red has no influence on the level of COVID coverage. Maybe someone can tell more about this.

  16. Hans van Mourik says up

Theo my question is, not whether you are insured.
The question is whether the English statement from DSW also states the amounts in the color orange or red, among other things
    $ 100000.
You need it for the visa.
    Hans van Mourik

    • TheoB says up

      OK Hans and traveller,

To be on the safe side, I will also ask my health insurer DSW if they would like to draw up an English statement that also explicitly states that those coverage amounts also apply in the event that Thailand has been given the color code orange or red by the Dutch government.
But I'm afraid this post will be closed to comments by the time I get a reply from them.

    • TheoB says up

I have asked DSW the following questions

      Good afternoon (R?),

I have two follow-up questions regarding the insurance statement for Thailand (see posts above).

In the case of a NON-IMMIGRANT VISA Category “O” (Other), the Thai Embassy in The Hague requires an English statement in which the minimum insured amounts (US$ 100.000, 40.000 baht out- and 400.000 baht inpatient) are explicitly stated.
See (Purpose 4) under “1. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS” at: https://hague.thaiembassy.org/th/page/76474-non-immigrant-visa-o-(others)
I assume DSW is issuing this statement in the English language?

The Thai embassy also requires that the insurance statement explicitly states that the cover also applies if Thailand has been declared an orange and/or red area by the Dutch government.
See under “Latest Developments:” at point (1) on: https://hague.thaiembassy.org/th/content/118896-measures-to-control-the-spread-of-covid-19
The English statement from DSW also explicitly states that the cover also applies if Thailand has been declared an orange and/or red area by the Dutch government?

Thank you very much for the reply,
      Theo B.

      L. van DSW replied that it is no longer possible to answer today, but that it will take until Monday at the latest.
