Reader question: Who has tips for Phuket and the surrounding area?
Dear readers,
In December we will go to Koh Yao Yai, Thiwson Beach Resort for 5 days and then 3 days to Nai Yang Beach, Naiyang Discovery Beach Resort in Phuket.
We have been to Thailand before, but never to Phuket and the surrounding area. Maybe someone knows my destinations and has some tips for me?
Greetings,
Frank
Hi, we have been to Phuket last summer.
the resort you mention is located more in the north of phuket.
Our experience is that it is less touristy there. It depends on what you're looking for. We found it a bit too quiet there. If you want more fun, I would advise you to just go down the west coast along all the beaches with a rented car. Or scooter, but be careful in busy traffic and always put on the helmet, otherwise you will be taken out by the police during traffic checks. Phuket Fanta Sea is a beautiful theater piece in which you can see a lot of the culture with animals, beautiful costumes and acts. Nice set up. Have fun!
I'm going to follow this one. We are going to the South West in January
Hi Frank
If you are looking for a nice resort on Phuket, go to Duangjitt resort, which is at the end of Patong Beach
there is a serene tranquility here it is like a paradise so beautiful it is not cheap but not too expensive either
from there you can also go to the Phi phi islands James Bond island Phuket is more expensive than Pattaya or Chang Mai and if you want to agree on the price with the taxi first because there is sometimes a lot of difference in a nice time in Phuket
our son has been living there for 12 years, we have been there several times, rent a scooter and explore the island, then you will be surprised what you see we do too, also a recommended KOH SOK above phuket see internet, and from phuket visit the islands eg PHI PHI etc. there is a lot to see, get away from the famous places, we will be going soon too, have fun
Don't forget to admire the underwater world with a diving or snorkeling trip. Other than that I completely agree with Marijke (also that of that helmet :-)). And relax!
I recently emailed the following to a friend.
In my opinion, the best things in Phuket are:
Weekend market
Don't forget to go to the weekend market / night market in Phuket Town this weekend. You really shouldn't miss it. Don't eat before you go, you can taste everything there.
Restaurants
Sabai Corner (http://www.sabaicorner.com/map)
Go before sunset, because then you have a nice view
After Beach Bar (http://www.phuket.com/nightlife/after-beach-bars.htm)
Also known as the reggae bars, also go here before sunset
Bo Beach Bar (http://bosbeachbar.thailanddesign.be/pagina4.html)
Dutch bar in Patong
The beach
Laem Singh Beach (http://www.phuket.com/island/beaches_laemsingh.htm)
Nice quiet beach, not so touristy
Paradise Beach / Freedom Beach. Know where to find every taxi driver, Freedom Beach can only be reached with a Long Tail Boat from Patong.
But the most beautiful beaches can be found at Rawai Beach, where you can take the long tail boat to
–Coral Island (http://www.phuket.com/island/ci.htm)
–Bon Island (Koh Bon) (http://www.phuket101.net/2014/01/bon-island.html)
Bon Island is really great, hardly any people come. Highly recommended!
If you have bad weather for a day, take a taxi to Rawai Beach. If the weather in the west (at Patong, Kata, Surin etc.) is bad, the weather at Rawai is almost always good.
Going out
Tiger Disco is by far the nicest nightclub, but you can't miss it on Bangla Road (Patong's entertainment street).
Phi Phi
Don't forget to go to Koh Phi Phi for a day or a few nights.
