Thailand reader question: Is there a scenario to get my Thai girlfriend to come to Belgium?
Dear readers,
Is there a script somewhere on how I can get my Thai girlfriend to come to Belgium for a period of 3 years? Possibly learn Dutch, work and marry. This until I am retired myself (in 3 years). Only then will we both migrate back to Thailand.
Or is there a consultancy agency that can arrange all these matters and paperwork for us?
Regards,
Peter

Dear Peter, I assume you are Belgian. For Belgians living in Belgium, the regular migration rules apply if they want to bring their foreign partner over. Think of the compulsory language course and so on.
Now I know a lot about immigration to the Netherlands, so I have a file for immigration to the Netherlands (for Dutch-Thai couples) on the blog. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who has typed such a file for Belgians and their Thai partners.
My knowledge for migration to Belgium is very limited, I can give two starting points:
This is the website of the Belgian migration service.
This is the website of the agency for migration & integration. There you will also find the necessary information about short stays, long stays (migration), integration, etc. I would definitely consult in addition to the official migration service website.
If migration to Belgium does not seem reasonably feasible (or proportional), consider the EU route. Then, as an EU citizen, you will live in another EU country for some time, at least 3 months (possibly also work). The partner with whom you have a marriage or marriage-like relationship may then come to that EU country under “flexible” conditions. After living together for several months in that other EU country, people can then migrate back to their own EU country under "flexible" conditions (including no integration requirement, etc.). In the Netherlands we also know this route as the “Belgium route”, for a Belgian who is going to the Netherlands (another EU country is also possible), this would be the “Netherlands route”.
Rov V. talks about the EU route above. That route has worked for my Thai wife and myself. It's been 24 years already, but when I wanted to bring my wife to Belgium, she was absolutely not allowed in, not even with a tourist visa. I still don't know why. I then moved to the Netherlands. Immediately after my registration in the Netherlands, she received a tourist visa. Tourist visa became MVV or residence permit for NL. And now we live in Belgium again.
Rob what is the url of your blog? I would like to read about some immigration strategies to the Netherlands. Thank you in advance!
Robin see the file menu on the left for "immigration Thai partner". Or use this link:
https://www.thailandblog.nl/wp-content/uploads/Immigratie-Thaise-partner-naar-Nederland1.pdf
If you want to have any chance of success, make sure you have proof (photos + invoices for hotels, planes, etc.). You must have known your future partner for at least 2 years and be able to prove this, of course. You must put her on a tourist visa at least 2 times (max 3 months). ) to Belgium before you finally get her here. These are the basic rules on which you can proceed. If you do not meet these 2 requirements, her visa will almost certainly be refused. If necessary, your friend can contact my wife, she has I have gone through the entire procedure and have now been here for almost 5 years. Just let me know and I will let you know how to contact my wife.
Dear Peter,
An explanation here on the site is almost impossible to convey properly.
After all, Dutch rules are not the Belgian ones.
I was officially married in Thailand in 2004 and live in Belgium. So I don't have much experience, apart from the fact that I stay in Thailand for about 6 to 8 months every year - apart from covid problems all over the world - Sometimes with sometimes without my wife who was of course Thai and still is,
Giving more information here will lead to a jumble of data and ideas.
Try to get my contact details via the operator and you can also visit me in Belgium..
If that doesn't work, look for another way.
