Dear people,

On January 24, I booked a plane ticket for February 100 to Bali at a travel agency in Bangkok (Panya Tour and Travel, 18 Praarthit Road Chanasongkram). I paid cash (17.500 baht) and received 1 A4 sheet with reference number and confirmed on it.

Since I wanted to know if the ticket could be postponed for a day, I called the desk yesterday. After 20 times no answer, I called Thai Airways who informed me that the ticket had been canceled on January 29. Not by me anyway.

It's stupid of me that I left the building with that one A4. Maybe they thought: woman alone, don't ask about her E-ticket. That's cashing in.

My question (after this long story) is whether there are people who have experienced something similar? I have been coming to Thailand in winter for years and I have never been ripped off like this.

Hope to hear something.

Sincerely,

Marguerite

What a rock! In a country like Thailand, how can you know whether a travel agency is reliable?
Booking directly with the airline as much as possible gives the most certainty, but that is of no use to you now. You should not expect anything from the airline because for them only the travel agency is a party in this matter and they will not want to interfere in this matter,

Cornelius, thank you for your kind comment. From now on indeed via the airline!

That's a rocky area. If I were you (and if you are still in Bangkok) I would go "live" to that desk. They can just ignore the phone, but when you are face to face, a Thai sometimes reacts completely differently. The best thing is that you can go there with a Thai . Maybe you can recover something after all.
    Good luck!

Have you already been back. Visiting is better than calling!

Tourist police already involved? Would go with the police. Also check whether there is a camera. They usually hang in every office. If so, have the police request images of that day on the spot. This of course after denial that they have sold you a ticket by the conscious practitioner in that office. Then, after images have been made recognizable, confront again. I assume compensation will follow (after all, loss of face is still important for Thai). After all, no one wants to be known as a liar / thief. That's how I would play it. Good luck

Have you already been back to the travel agency? Does it still exist? You don't report that. Are you sure Thai Airways didn't receive the money? You don't report that either.
I have booked tickets through the same travel agency many times, always gone well.

Definitely report it, if it is indeed wrong.

Ambiguity in my earlier response: by 'same travel agency' I do not mean your travel agency, but a travel agency in Jomtien where I have been booking for many years

    Dear,

The fact that the ticket was canceled on January 29 means that it was indeed booked!
Would personally go to a Thai Airways (TA) agency.
As long as you haven't canceled it yourself, you're right in the shoes, right?
Require TA to contact the agency themselves
    Then it will become clear.

Hopefully they will do a commercial gesture at worst…

    Good luck,

    David

See my first response above, David. The problem of booking through an intermediary is precisely that for the airline, that intermediary is the party with whom business is being done. In this case, if the traveler had wanted to cancel with Thai Airways, there would have been a referral back to the travel agency. In such a case, that is also the only party to whom Thai Airways may issue a. payment would have been refunded.
In the past it has happened to me that I was referred to the intermediary through whom I had booked in case of desired changes, etc. Nice, especially if there is a rush, you should also be able to reach them at the desired time………….. Since then I only book directly on the websites of the airline companies.

        Hi. That's right.
But TA does have the opportunity to investigate the travel agency that distributes its tickets. And to have the license revoked in the event of fraud.
In this way, the poster may be a commercial gesture.
Worth trying. And so the rogue agency is immediately the object of prosecution.

Yes there are scammers everywhere. That's why it's good to make their Pranks known everywhere.
You do well to give their full name and address. This needs to happen a lot more.
Many people accept such things much too easily. But get rid of them. Also report this on eg Thai Visa .Com.I and Dutch expats. Otherwise they will continue with these practices.

    Dear Margaret,
I know most of the councils, so also these, are like bringing salt after meals.
I understand that it was a flight from Thai airways, and the surest way is directly with Thai airways.
In Bangkok you have, among other things, a large office on the Silom road, where you can book directly without an intermediary, and you have an E ticket immediately after payment. With your bad experience at Panya Tour and Travel, I only see the possibility of getting something back through a lawyer, which again involves costs and risk. However, I believe that it was unfortunately expensive tuition, and a warning for the future, and the readers of your message here on Thaiblog NL.

I have experienced the same thing at Bangkok airway but paid by Visa.
after a solid conversation with my wife in Thai, we got the money back, but 15 euros too little.
I have reported to the ANWB VISA and they will deposit the remaining amount into my account the same day.
the notification of the visa was
I only book with visa all your purchases are insured and you always get your money back.

    Dear people,

Thank you for all the heartwarming comments and tips! Thanks everyone.
I'm now on the island of Koh Mak and that's a good thing since I got mild homicidal tendencies.
I will be back in Bangkok in mid-February and will definitely visit the office.
Good tip on the camera. I will also definitely report it and possibly post it on other social media.
    But first go by.
The tourist police on Koh Mak referred me to the number 1155, which also did not answer. (Something about telephones in Thailand you would think).
And I will also visit the Thai Office on Silom Road.
    And indeed: an expensive lesson.
