Dear readers,

We are going to Thailand for the first time in a few months. Through a tip on this site we were able to get a cheap plane ticket, now a hotel…

We, boyfriend and girlfriend, still young in body and members still have to book a hotel in Bangkok. We can no longer see the wood for the trees because there is so much supply. What should we pay attention to? Are there any neighborhoods you shouldn't be in? We want to stay in Bangkok for four days to see things and then travel on. Is it wise to book a hotel at the station and what is the normal amount for an overnight stay in a three-star hotel?

Thanks in advance for the tips.

Yours faithfully,

Margreet

In most hotels you are ready for 1000-1500 baht per night, 3 star hotels.

I would also take a station that is close to a BTS station. With the BTS you can move around the city very easily. Most major entertainment centers and tourist destinations are easily accessible by BTS.

Furthermore, it mainly depends on what you think you are going to do.

Good tip from BA, find something close to the attraction you are going to do or the BTS.

What I really liked in Bangkok is my own apartment. I booked it through Airbnb. Bangkok has quite a large offer on Airbnb 🙂

we just spent 4 days in Bangkok last week and were not close to a train station, but Casa Nithra is a fine and tidy hotel with an information stand at the front door where they help you well, brought from the airport by taxi for 450, make sure you have the address where you want to go in Thai with you, ask the hotel if necessary, they will write it down.
A tip if you take the tuk tuk, take the one with the yellow number plate and say clearly again that you want to go to the specified address and not to the jewelery and nl shopping, because the tuk tuk with a white number plate will trick you and will take you to the jewelery or to the shopping they have agreements with them so don't take it!
Fun to do was a bike tour with Co van Kessel then you see Bangkok in a different way and they let you taste things you get bottles of water from them and at a local restaurant warm food and tell you everything, we also did this on advice from others we have done the 5 hour tour, wear good shoes, the nice thing is that you will find more Dutch people there.
Have fun in a few months, we will now enjoy Thailand for another 14 days.

    Greetings Judith

I also often visit Thailand and therefore take a hotel in Bangkok for 2 days, we always go to Nana Plaza. Hotel close to the airport station and many entertainment venues.

      Dion,

      Completely agree with you,
Have been coming for 30 years.
Nana Hotel is a well maintained middle class hotel for a reasonable price, 1390 thb. Centrally located and everything easily accessible by skytrain. I like the mattresses. Not too hard or too soft.

Don't be afraid, enjoy it, see it like Amsterdam/Rotterdam (FF larger 17.000.000 inhabitants) large hotels are very luxurious and well affordable. Criminals are everywhere, including in BKK, stay on the continuous/lit road, not in the alleys. You can pick up taxis everywhere and not pay too much for 100 baht and then you are a lot further (pay attention) Yes, and what do you want to do, to the north (1000 km) or south (2000 km), by train or domestic flight, it is beautiful and enjoyable everywhere, you can eat on every street corner for 30 baht and more expensive if you want. I can tell you so much about it, and you can read that here on this site, all Thailand visitors and residents, good luck and have a nice holiday in Thailand.

I myself have very good experience with Greenwood Travel, who offer you the Prince Palace Hotel with a hefty discount.
If you still want to look elsewhere, take a look at the room before booking to avoid disappointment, because appearances can often be deceiving.
    Happy Holidays

I also stayed in Prince Palace once, large, indeed a nice hotel, nice pool and bar outside with a view over BKK.

Try to avoid the weekends prices are often higher then. Many people then spend a weekend in Bangkok. This certainly applies to the center of Bangkok.

I stay (when I am in Bangkok) in Nana Hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 4 and that is close to a BTS station (Nana). Baht 1490 per night. Good breakfast and of course good rooms (with bath).
The hotel is located in a busy part of the city with a lot of nightlife….but it is a very good starting point to explore the city.

Go to khao san road don't book in advance just go plenty of hotels

    • BA says up

It is better to book the better hotels such as Khao San Palace, otherwise they tend to be full.

Furthermore, it is a pleasant neighborhood, but very noisy at night if you are in the middle of Khao San zir and no offense, but you should also like the type of tourists (many people in their twenties, backpackers and mainly low budget)

First, have a look around on latestays.com
Enter which part of Bangkok, eg Sukhumvit or Riverside or Chinatown and you will get a lot of info.
If you click on a hotel, you will be redirected to the hotel and you will receive all details and a map of where the hotel is located.
Also check out newsiam.net they have rooms in Banglampoo near the river from 400 to 3000 THB in different buildings, clean and efficient, I've been coming there for years.
You can get on the boats there for a trip on the Chao Praya.
You will also meet many fellow travelers of all nationalities with whom you can exchange information.

and BA's tip also applies equally to all destinations.

if you don't want to pay too much, go a little away from the main attractions, where the hotels are more affordable. and then it is important to investigate the accessibility of those attractions. often hotels themselves indicate how far they are from a metro or something like that.
the internet is great for that.

Two years ago we stayed with 3 people in the Novotel Bangkok Silom. This for a real bargain price (in this chain): €36 per night, including breakfast, for a 2-3 person room.
Obviously that price is now quite a lot higher, but still I found the location quite convenient.
In 5 minutes walk there was a BTS station (Surasak), but also a dock for the Chao Phraya river boats (Oriental pier). The latter means of transport is very useful if you want to see the 'older' monuments, such as Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Arun, since no other form of public transport goes there. We used those boats quite a lot, and for 15 baht they are also very cheap.
There was also a free shuttle bus from the hotel to Saladaeng BTS station and Silom MRT station. So you could actually use all means of transport from this hotel without transferring.

In other respects the hotel was rather standard. Nothing special really. From the window on the 15th floor we had a very nice view and the breakfast was also above average.

As many have already written, it is wise to book a hotel that is centrally located, close to the sights and public transport. As far as the price is concerned, you could make a comparison from a direct online booking at the desired hotel, which usually have increased their prices in Thai Bath due to the weak euro, or first compare it with e.g. Neckerman, Arke, or Meiers in Germany Weltreisen etc. who usually had their prices fixed in euros when the euro exchange rate was better. My experience is that the latter are often much cheaper than a direct booking in the desired hotels, which certainly adjust their prices daily.
    Good luck John.

Hi Margreet, depending on what is your budget and standard, you can find good and clean places to spend the night all over Thailand.
For example, KT guesthouse has a swimming pool and is a 10-minute walk from the Metro and costs around 600 bath for two people (with air conditioning). The metro stops under the train station.
As Marcel already indicated, Khao san is also an option, the prices are around 600 to 1000 for an overnight stay.
I have been going to Thailand for around 20 years but I never book a hotel in advance.
There are so many places to sleep that you really don't have to worry that everything is full.
If you need info on hotels in Thailand Bangkok, Changmai, Changrai, etc and bus and train tables or restaurants I have all of these for you. I have often given this to friends and acquaintances who go to Thailand for the first time.

    Hallo,

I have been going to Bangkok for years and often stay in the hotel Paradiso (booking via Agoda !), a small three-star hotel that has a very good location in Soi 10 Sukhumvit at 250 m from BTS NANA and next to a small park 50 m down the street ( SOi 10). You are therefore also close to the busy main street, but still quietly located. The rooms are very pleasant and tidy with all the trimmings. However, the breakfast is not much.
From Suvarnabhumi airport I always travel by Skytrain to the end and then transfer to BTS to Nana. Easy to walk ! Travel by BTS or taxi during the day or on foot and by tuk-tuk at night because it is cheaper.
    Chockdee!

I went to hotel Sourrire@Rattanakosin Island last November with my toddler daughter. Super nice hotel for a nice price with a nice breakfast. It is located in a mini alley right behind the Democracy Monument and a 5 minute walk from Khaosan Road. And within walking distance of many attractions. And it is wonderfully quiet during the day and at night, no noise from the street
