Reader question: VIP bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai
Dear readers,
I want to take bus from bangkok to chiangmai. Normally people take a VIP bus, but last year I took the wrong one, I think, because all those other VIP buses drove past us.
Is there a difference in these buses? Which one should I take to travel quickly and comfortably to Chiangmai or possibly another destination?
Thanks in advance
Patrick
Have a look here:
http://www.thaiguidetochiangmai.com/travel-and-transport/bus-from-bangkok-to-chiang-mai-timetables-fares/ You have to take the gold, stands for VIP.
Also look at the price of low budget tickets and Thai airways flying is only one hour.
Dear Patrick,
Last year i took the vip bus from bkk to chiang mai it was a disaster we drove from garage to garage. for a few baths extra you can take the night train, which is much more pleasant to travel than in a bus, because for us Dutch people the legroom in the bus is a bit on the tight side.

You travel quickly and comfortably from Bangkok to Chiang Mai by plane. The journey with a low budget airline is barely more expensive than by bus and much safer.
I recommend that you take a public bus from the Morchit bus terminal. There are several companies that have the CM designation. Personally, I always use this one from Nakonchaiair. Another good one is Sombattour. But there are several. What I do not recommend are those offered on Kaosan Road. These will take you to CM, but are sponsored by certain hotels and guesthouses; It is then normal that they want to take you to those places. You will then be dropped off somewhere in CM at a place where red taxi buses are waiting for you to take you to those places. Once on site, they will try to persuade you to book trekkings with them. People are trying to make money from you.
The regular buses take you to CM arcade bus station.
Which bus you wish to take, you must decide yourself on the basis of the departure times.
I usually take the night bus to arrive in CM the next morning around 6 am.
With me everything depends on when the flight arrives in Bangkok. Sometimes I catch a flight through to CM.
Flight BKK >CNX = 1h 15
Bus about 10 am
Thai buses come in 3 classes, VIP is just a name that means nothing. 1st class is with AC, catering, WC on board and almost nonstop. 3rd kl is the old fashioned go AC and stops everywhere- they haven't been running on these long routes for years.
Between BK and CM the competition is cutthroat - there are at least 20 different. companies. Foreigners usually praise the service of NCA - which in BKk does NOT depart from the real Mochit but from nearby - have their own smaller bus station, which every taxi knows.
I've also looked at those buses, but for the 31,44 euros that Thay Airways charged me for a one-way ticket Bangkok - Chiang Mai, in two weeks, I'm not going to spend a long day - or night - on the bus (and not even on the train). It's not that much fun on the road anymore.........
Sombat tours, these have their own bus terminal in Bangkok. The VIP buses have 24 (massage) seats, a screen for you where you can choose from various games and English-language films. By the way, flying won't be much more expensive.
