Home » Reader question » Reader question: State quarantine for Thai, what kind of accommodation is that?
Dear readers,
My wife is leaving for Thailand next week. She must also remain in a state-funded quarantine. She wonders what kind of shelter she will end up in?
Regards,
Jacques
Hi Jacques , that of course depends on where they take you. If she takes a free ASQ hotel, it is the government that decides where she will stay. These hotels are generally good, even the embassy advised my wife to take these hotels as they had no complaints from people who stayed there. My wife also said that the hotel she stayed in was good. A friend of hers even brought some stuff that they gave to her.
You have to have a bit of luck, but in general this is usually not too bad. My wife went into quarantine for 14 days at the beginning of October, the room looked very neat, she even had a balcony that she could use, but this is not the case. always the case. Refrigerator, microwave and air conditioning are available. Food was delivered to the door 3 times a day, this is quite simple, usually chicken, which you have seen after a week. Wifi is available so you can keep in touch. You can also order food and the like from 7 eleven, subject to payment of course. I would advise her to bring some food that she likes. And of course it remains a bit "prison", which is why a room with a balcony is an advantage.
My girlfriend (thai) arrived in Thailand today, 19/12/20, Bangkok, and is now staying at Jomtien Palm Beach hotel, mandatory quarantine arranged and paid for by the Thai government.
Mrsgr Jacob
Jacques, my son (Thai nationality) had to do 16 nights of quarantine in a 4 star hotel in Jomtien. That was in July.
My wife ended up in a 4 star hotel in the heart of Bangkok, but she didn't like the food so she would bring some noodle soup or something she likes.
Hello Jacques,
My girlfriend was repatriated to Thailand yesterday (December 18) with a KLM flight.
It took a long time at the KLM check-in desk, because the ground staff wanted to know a hotel name for the 15-day quarantine, which of course she did not know. Lots of confusion and delay, and finally apologies, because she couldn't have known.
The hotel where she is staying is in Jomtien/Pattaya. It's called Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel. Via booking sites Agoda and Booking you can see what the hotel looks like. She herself had never been to Pattaya before, and had no desire to. (For some, Pattaya is seen a bit as “Sin City” which of course does an injustice to this place).
She has a small room, with a window that she can slide open, and a bathroom with bath and separate shower. The bed is firm with good pillows and everything very clean. The hotel is dated.
The hotel internet is not that good, but via 4G the connection is excellent, and you probably know that these data SIM cards are very cheap in Thailand.
She is not demanding, so she is happy with this room. We work with Line video, or FaceTime to speak to each other daily.
regards
Well, Jomtien is not Pattaya city but Pattaya Province which many do not know.
Hello Jacques,
My wife went back 2 months ago. Everything actually went very smoothly. Taken by coach to a 5-star hotel under police escort in her case in Pattaya.
On arrival they immediately had to go to their own room, just a luxury room with 2 large beds. There is plenty of bottled water, toiletries and toilet paper in the room.
3 times a day they knock at the door and food is ready.
You may choose otherwise, but of course it is for your own account.
The next day the first test is done and the last week the second.
Mutual contact is maintained via an app group.
2 weeks is quite long, take enough distraction to read or something and a sweet or something savory to get through the night.
After 2 weeks, your trip home will be arranged in consultation, my wife was brought home with a van and the village head had to sign for "reception".
All in all I must say that everything was neatly taken care of.
Anyway, now she's with her family.
That is always waiting and they will only hear in Thailand.
My wife was lucky to end up in a nice hotel and a nice room with a very nice view
over the beach from the 7th floor, I think, in Pattaya.
She's dreading it like a mountain
just hope for some luck..
