Dear readers,
My wife has been in Belgium for 9 years now, everything is fine with her. She has followed integration courses, works, we have a son, and she has a Belgian ID+ card.
Now to apply for Belgian nationality they need a new birth certificate, the previous one dates from 2009. Because we can't travel now, it will have to be done with a power of attorney.
Now the question is where do you have to go for such a document? Notary here in Belgium or an agency in Thailand?

You can request such a power of attorney document from the Thai embassy. They do ask for a copy of the identity card and proof of address (both in 4 copies !!!) of the person to whom you give power of attorney!

I think family of hers can get that instead. I know quite a few Thai people who were in Belgium and obtained the documents to marry (eg birth certificate) through a sister brother or girlfriend who could obtain those documents in their place. Maybe your wife has to give a power of attorney, but that can now easily be done via internet scanning.
I think a written power of attorney is sufficient…..Maybe just ask at the town hall where your wife was born.
I am in the same situation, but I do have a lot of experience with translations and legalizations.
I think it is best to wait a few more months and arrange everything in Thailand. You must first get a birth certificate, take it to the foreign affairs office in Thailand for legalization, from there to the recognized translator, and then to the embassy of Belgium, to be legal there. 400 bath foreign affairs, 1000 bath translation, and 800 bath embassy.
Are you officially married in Belgium or Thailand?
A legal birth certificate is already present for a marriage concluded in Belgium.
This is also the case with a marriage recognized in Belgium.
When we applied for Belgian nationality for my wife, a new translation by a translator recognized in Belgium was required (contact Parket of your place of residence to find one, we only have a copy of that deed and a copy of its legalization). delivered here and again that recognized translation (read; copying the delivered documents on recent (new) paper) paid here, of course.
A copy of a birth certificate in Thailand can easily be obtained by family at the population services of the place of residence (house book must be there)
That was handled fairly smoothly, taking into account the actions required by law, of course.
Please check with your municipality and/or public prosecutor's office about this.
