Problems with bank card for ATM and internet banking
Dear readers,
I had an account at Bangkokbank with Visacard for ATM. Due to too many problems with internet banking, I stopped using it and switched to SCB. Here with master card for ATM. Same problems for internet banking here, Little time, time out.
Question, are these types of bank cards only sold to foreigners? Or do Thai have the same or different cards. Last week for the 500 baht promotion even the ID cards were used. The cards cannot be used in ATM in Belgium. The same for internet banking.
I have sent SCB an e-mail every day for a whole month, last Sunday someone answered me and apologized that I had to wait so long. Called the number mentioned on Friday, they say they never received an e-mail.
Who also has problems with this?
Regards,
DanielVL (BE)
Dear sir. probably you are not aware that the Bangkok Bank has discontinued VISA. That was indeed difficult because I could no longer make internet payments. I couldn't do anything with the Union Pay mentioned on the new card either. However, recently a girl from the Bangkok Bank stood outside at the ATM to help people and I told her that there was nothing I could do with my card and VISA on it.
Then she said but we now also have Mastercard and you can come by with your passport and bank book. No sooner said than done and now I have a new debit card from the Bangkok bank with the Mastercard logo on it and it works for my internet payments as usual.
So your transfer to the SCB was not necessary, but admit that the information from the bank was simply insufficient.
Hello HarryN, it is indeed true that the visa card has been replaced by a Master card and works well… But now I read in your message that you can make internet payment. (With your PC and smartphone I think) Now I would like to use that too and asked last year. I was told in the Bangkokbank that this does not apply to foreigners!!???. Could you give me a word of explanation. Thanks in advance for the effort.
I had to think for a while but yes I can really make payments through the internet banking system that I received from the Bangkok bank. If I want to make a payment in Thailand, you must first create a 3rd party account. That goes without saying and then you choose which bill you want to pay (I have 2) and choose the 3rd party account. My question (perhaps superfluous) is therefore: does the bank not provide Internet banking to you?
I went by today and they are working now. But that was not the case a year ago. (sorry not for Farang was the answer then)
The new bank card of this bank also has problems and that is due to the .6-digit pin. Many vending machines in restaurants, etc. are not yet equipped for this new system.
Never had any problems with Bangkok Bank or SCB (and other banks) in the 7 years that I have lived in Thailand.
Internet just works well for paying and receiving and the cards never give any problem, not at hotels or restaurants or petrol stations and supermarkets or anywhere else, never really had any problems. I never carry a lot of cash with me, always pay with a card. I wouldn't know how else to do it, I think the problem is with the card users.
No, the old card from the Bangkok bank worked fine, but it's the newer cards that cause inconvenience. Has nothing to do with the user. However, this bank has high security requirements, for which not every payment terminal is suitable (not yet)
Since 2 months I have a Krungsri and Bangkokbank account with ATM card and internet banking
No problems at all. Everything works satisfactorily. At the Bangkokbank I could choose between Unionpay or Mastercard ATM card.
I hope you have chosen Mastercard because Union Pay is almost impossible to do. Have you ever seen a restaurant with a sign outside that Union pay is accepted? I do not yet know that Visa and/or Mastercard is accepted.
In my case so far I have a visa bank credit card and no problem at all. Recently the card was slightly damaged, especially the number, and I was simply sent a new card to pick up at the office where the card was purchased.
No card for foreigners? Nonsense, but firstly you must have a bank account and secondly a fixed account with the counter balance of your credit balance. Transfer the amount due from your savings account once a month and a child will do the laundry. Yes, with internet banking. If you need more money on your credit card than sending extra money in advance, the credit first works as a debit card.
My ATM use has always gone well. No problem. I am a customer of the two mentioned banks with agency in Tesco Lotus Hangdong (airport) they normally have to fill in forms and forward them to the head office. They don't do this and always give a phone number to call. If I do that, I get someone on the line who rattles off a message at 100 an hour that I don't understand. Until last Sunday I got a man on the phone who explained to me well what to do. First attempt failed. My password was not accepted was too simple). Second attempt different password apparently succeeded. I already have 16 passwords and codes, I already use a notebook to keep track of them. In Belgium it works with a kind of card reader and the bank card
