Dear readers,

Today I was in Jomtien at the Revenue Office to have the PDN90 form completed for a refund of the 'witholding tax' from the bank, as in previous years. But I was told that they no longer fill out forms, and that I had to do that myself.

Are there several people with this problem? Does anyone know where I can have the PDN90 form (in Thai) completed?

Regards,

Albert

    Dear Albert,

What is a PDN90 form, and what is WITHOLDING TAX?
Is this about the tax that the bank withholds,
after she credits the interest to your savings account?
And can you reclaim that tax?

I'd like to hear your explanation.

Indeed, it is about the 15% tax that the bank deducts from the interest.
If you have a tax number, the interest paid is therefore income and you have to pay tax on it.
But of course you do have the necessary exemptions.
That is in case 30,000 bath and after that the first 150,000 bath falls in the 0% bracket.
So if the interest is less than 180,000 baht, you will get that withheld 15% back.

Until now, you would get a printout from the bank and take it to the tax office,
where they filled out the form for you.

But this time the message came that I had to fill in the form, which is of course in Thai, myself!

An English version of the form is available on the internet,
but of course not from the accompanying manual on how to fill it in.
