Dear readers,

I have a question…. later this year we want to go to Maeklon in Damnoen Saduak/Ratchaburi/Thailand district from Bangkok. How can we best go, train, bus, taxi and what does it cost?

From there it is the intention to go to Hua Hin and the same question applies to that.

Thanks for the help.
Regards,

Jan

the best thing is not to go to Damnoen Saduak because it is totally fake. Better you go to the floating market of Amphawa a good 15 km from there.

The train to Hua Hin is hopelessly slow and with much additional delay you finally arrive in Hua Hin, sometimes this trip Bangkok / Hua Hin even takes more than six hours!
Much better is the bus or Taxi, there is a VIP bus from Suvarnabumi airport to Hua Hin I think for around 400 bath per person.
The minibus costs less but is much less comfortable, and a taxi from the airport costs approximately 2100 baht per meter

We have crossed all of Malaysia and Thailand from Singapore in 2011 and 2012 by public transport (BUS) and that is going excellently. Costs little and you have the real local culture in the bus with music and TV. (sometimes) But be on time because the buses in Thailand run better on time than in NL and don't linger too long at the bus stations because if you return to the bus too late, it has left. We have enjoyed it a lot. Some buses are nicer than others, but once you get used to the system you don't want anything else. In every city there are 1 or more bus stations depending on where you want to go, so ask the hotel or tourist office where you need to be. And sometimes you have to transfer to go to your next goal but ask everywhere and you will get help. We would advise you to buy a ticket at the bus station the day before to avoid disappointment.

Talad nam (floating market) Damnoen Saduak is located 110 km west of Bangkok and is best reached from Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) (accessible by taxi, costs approximately 120 TB from Bangkok) with an air-conditioned bus (no. .78) which departs every 40 minutes from 06:00 AM (the market opens at 07:00 AM). The ride takes approximately 2 hours and costs 64 TB for a single ride. The bus stops 1 km from the market and from there 15 minutes walk or a group taxi will take you to the market.
It is a very busy place and recommended to start the visit as early as possible (before 09:00).

Air-conditioned buses depart from Southern Bus Terminal or from the airport (level 1 at gate 8) to Hua Hin (3 hours drive, 200 km, costs approximately 175 TB one way).

    Have fun with this trip!

doesn't even exist in BKK. Marc will probably parrot a misinformed site.
It makes no sense to mention all the buses that run to/via Sai Thai, because it very much depends on where you leave in BKK - ditto for taxi costs. Plus the 1st time comer will usually grab a taximeter. Then you will have to deal with the fact that many taxis do not want to go there, because it is much too far and still ruled by a taxi mafia and no return customers.
MINIvans to DS have been departing for about 3-4 years from much closer in town, between tesco/Centran past the PATA/Pinklao-near our teacher Chris's residence.
Save yourself all those complicated situations: book a tour bus at an agency. Or take a good travel guide. You can't even buy tickets in advance for these types of short-distance buses.

    Have a look at:

    http://www.airporthuahinbus.com

    Recently new.
New buses, good drivers, safe journeys.
    305 thb per person.
Book in advance, because the buses are regularly full.

I have tried everything on this track.
Also the train, to do family a favor.
    Gray suicide vans (NEVER again).

With a bit of luck you will find a good taxi, but then you pay more than double with three people.

No, I am won over by the Hua Hin Airbus.

    Dirk

Thanks for the response, but we first want to stay in Maeklon for about 2 days and then go to Hua Hin, does the bus also stop in Maeklon?
      Greetings Jan.

It's probably just us, but if you arrive tired in Bkk and you can drive straight to Hua Hin in a good car, 3.5 hours, we are willing to pay a few tens of euros for it. No lugging around with suitcases, you will be dropped off straight away at your accommodation there.
Buses are often ice cold, it seems as if they turn the air conditioning on at its loudest.
