Dear readers,

I have a question about the 'notification of residence'. When I go to Thailand, I enter my first hotel in Bangkok on my arrival card. Now I found on the website www.immigration.go.th that when I visit my friends, wherever I stay for a few days, this stay must be declared at the immigration service.

For me that would put a damper on the joy of visiting friends in Phuket, Chang Mai and Isaan. I don't really like three trips to immigration.

My question is therefore whether the Dutch or Belgians who live in Thailand always register their guests, family or friends with the immigration service.

Yours faithfully,

Roy

Doesn't seem necessary. Especially not because it is impossible for the immigration service to check whether you had already planned to visit these friends or whether it was a spontaneous impulse because you were in the area lol :-). So I wouldn't worry too much about that. You fill in your first hotel or accommodation on the entry card that you will already receive on the plane. After that your travel plan is open and depending on sense and time I would say. I have been traveling through Thailand in this way for more than 10 years and have never had any problems with it. Have fun.

No, the hotel or resort where you stay must register you with the emigration, if they do not, they can be fined

I have been living in Thailand for over 6 years now. Already had many friends / family visiting or staying. Never experienced any problem with emigration. And I'm sure, that said visit not all have indicated to stay with me.

As long as you leave Thailand within the period of your (30-day) visa, there is nothing to worry about.

what happens to people who only have a thirty day visa and still want to stay much longer .. who want to make a tour of Thailand for half a year or more ...??

      • RonnyLatPhrao says up

        Dear Josh,

First and foremost, they must arrange a suitable visa themselves (Tourist, Non-Immigrant and any extensions thereof)

It is then the responsibility of the hotel, guesthouse, home owner, head of household, etc… to make those reports.
They can travel peacefully throughout Thailand.
Every time they arrive at a different place of residence and want to stay there, the person responsible for that place of residence must make that report.
In practice, the traveler will hardly notice all these reports. (Perhaps only with family or friends if they report this)

See my previous post about this or read the Visa file

Since 1995 I fill in: several hotels in Thailand on a round trip

    Never got a question.

  5. Jean-Paul says up

The Thai who houses a foreigner is obliged to report this to the local immigration. Also.on just a visit. Failure to do so will result in a fine of at least 800 Thb. To pay immediately. Speak from experience.

Don't worry unnecessarily. Filling in your first hotel stay, for example, is sufficient. Some stay in Bangkok for 1 night and then go on a tour. It is difficult to put all your hotels on the immigration card. There are of course also travellers/backpackers who have not booked any hotel in advance. Then fill in the name of a fictitious hotel in Bangkok because there are immigration officials who check whether anything has been filled in anyway.

There is indeed an obligation to register family members, friends and others at your immigration office, and that obligation does not only apply to hotels and the like. This obligation also applies if your guest already lives in Thailand but in a different province. I believe the fine is THB 5.000 per day per farang. The chance that the violations will be discovered does not seem that great, but now that the military is increasingly enforcing the rules, the chance has of course increased. For example, what if those guests are involved in a traffic accident and have to give their address? And of course it's not just about that fine, but also about all the other problems associated with such a violation.
Fortunately, the declaration can now be made by e-mail. Download TM30 (NOTIFICATION FORM FOR HOUSE-MASTER, OWNER OR THE POSSESSOR OF THE RESIDENCE WHERE ALIEN HAS STAYED) from http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/base.php?page=download and send it to your immigration office. There must be a signature of the homeowner, so a scan of the completed form must also be made.
I've done it a few times myself, but unfortunately never received confirmation of receipt. But at least I can prove that I did my best.

      Correction:
According to my wife, the fine is “only” THB 800 per night and per farang. And so not THB 5.000. My wife has a much better memory than me so THB 800 must be correct. Moreover, Jean-Paul also mentions it.
The notification to the immigration office must be made within 24 hours (see also RonnyLatPhrao's response).

      Hans,

Just logged in to the site you indicated and the relevant form. What do you think? Nothing happens at all........so no form either.

      • RonnyLatPhrao says up

The link Hans gives works perfectly.

Otherwise, try this one. It is the link of Bangkok Immigration (or Division 1)
        They are the same forms.

Strange Teun, you can even choose from a Word document and a PDF. Good luck. And otherwise follow RonnyLatPhrao's suggestion of course.

        • support says up

I wasn't paying close attention. Forgot 1 action. So can download both Word and Pdf.

But now to reality. You can't have your guests fill out such a form every time. A bit bureaucratic. Just like 90-day notifications with a 1-year visa. You cannot leave the country without a re-entry visa. So where are you then? Just at home of course cq. within Thailand. But yes, you have to report anyway, otherwise you will be fined etc.

          • Hans Pronk says up

A bit bureaucratic indeed. But now that it can be done via the internet, it is not too bad. And you won't get visitors from the Netherlands every month.
You can leave Thailand without any problems without a re-entry visa. Only entering Thailand again is a bit more difficult…..

      • Hans Pronk says up

        Teun,

Are you perhaps working on a computer purchased in Thailand? Then there is a good chance that it contains illegal software. For example, Internet Download Manager (IDM). You can see this from the message when starting the computer that a fake serial number has been used. And with such an illegal version you cannot download PDF files, for example. That could explain your problem.
Solution: either install a usable IDM or choose to download the Word document.

If you go to a hotel guesthouse, or whatever, they will do that for you.
If you visit family, friends, etc., the head of the family must do this for you. First name on the Tabien Baan.
You don't have to do anything yourself.
The only thing you have to do yourself is fill in the first address where you will stay on your “arrival” card. From arrival at that address it is also the responsibility of the hotel, guesthouse or head of family to report your further stay.

There is a chapter about this in the visa file.

    Report whereabouts on arrival
    bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/base.alienstay
Homeowners, heads of households, landowners or managers of hotels hosting foreigners on a legal and temporary basis must notify Immigration within 24 hours. This is in accordance with the Immigration Act, section 38. If there is no Immigration Office in the province, this notice of residence may be made at the local police station. The notification of residence must be made using form TM30 – Notification form for house masters, owner or possessor of the residence where alien have stay. The notification within 24 hours can be made in person at the Immigration Office (or police station); by an authorized person of e.g. the hotel; by registered mail or via the internet.

This is certainly done by hotels. They know they have to do this and can be fined for negligence.
Individuals do it less. By the way, most Thai or foreigners don't know that they have to do this. Private individuals are not really monitored.
I wouldn't worry about it if your friends or family don't either. So don't let it put a damper on the joy.

For someone who will spend a longer period of time with family, it may be advisable to inform the homeowner if he does not know. It is a small effort, by the way. Just send form TM 30 to Immigration. No one needs to move to immigration for that.

When I went to live with my daughter-in-law in the Isaan, we had to emigrate together.
She had to have with her all the papers of her house and identity card I had to have my passport and visa with me and must be reported to the emigration within 24 hours, which we also did not know.
Fortunately, we didn't get a fine for reporting too late
