Dear readers,

At which Thai bank can you do internet banking from the Netherlands, without having to have a Thai mobile phone number?

Yours faithfully,

Ronald

At Kasikorn you can choose whether you want to receive an OTP (one Time Password) via SMS for transactions via the internet or whether you use a special security password. This password is not the same as your login and it must consist of at least 12 characters.
The method is not recommended by Kasikorn employees because it is more sensitive to hackers, but if you want to bank in the Netherlands, this is probably easier.

No real answer to your question. But I bank with Kasikorn with a Thai mobile number of 12call/AIS. The sim is in an old phone of mine and works without any problems in the Netherlands on the KPN network and receiving SMS in the Netherlands costs nothing. The only thing you have to keep an eye on is that you have to increase your calling credit every year. You can do this when you are in Thailand, but you can also do this via online banking at Kasikorn.

      That is called positive feedback.
Your internet banking maintains your calling credit and your calling credit maintains your internet banking.

I do this myself with the SCB. First make sure that you have entered bank numbers correctly in Thailand because of the OTP, unless you can reach a Thai number in the Netherlands that is known to the bank.

At KTB you don't really need a telephone number for banking in the Netherlands.
For already entered “payee's” you only need your password.
You need a Thai mobile number to add names/numbers to whom you have to or want to pay something.

It is possible to receive the code via email from some banks.
But that is strongly discouraged, if you get hacked everything is open!
I myself gave the phone number of my girlfriend's daughter,
she receives the code by text message as soon as I want to make a booking and she then passes it on to us.
    It's cumbersome but safe.

When I opened an account with the Thai Siam bank, it had to have a Thai phone number, so I gave my girlfriend's phone number. This telephone number regularly receives a text message from the bank with the bank position. I think they work the same with internet banking as the ING bank.

My wife has a password here for the websites of her accounts at Kasikorn bank and Bangkok bank (from Belgium). So she can manage it from here.

I think the first hurdle is being able to open an account at all.
I was only able to do that at the Bangkok Bank and internet banking was not possible with the account type that was offered to me.
    Only pins via the ATM.
That was enough for me at first. I had a lot of euros with me, which I exchanged for a good rate at an exchange office and then deposited at the bank.
Explanation: I was just there as a tourist who traveled through Southeast Asia for a few months and returned to Thailand a number of times. So I didn't have to walk around with too many Euros during my trip to neighboring countries.

Unfortunately no Thai bank that works with an edentifier like ABNAMRO and RABO. Such a telephone is indeed the same as the ING system. The problem we now have is that there is a telephone number in the banking system and we use a different Thai telephone number. It is not possible to adjust that number from NL. We can't do internet banking until our next visit to the bank in Thailand.

    Thanks for all the answers.

Obtaining a second pin at the kasikornbank, when going outside thailand, no longer works. The bank has scrapped this option because of the insecurity. Only an SMS with a roaming account is still possible.
Recently heard this from the bank when I wanted to set up a second pin because I am going to the Netherlands for a few weeks.
