Dear readers,

For me it is time again to book new flights to Thailand. I have compared several flights from the airports of Brussels, Amsterdam, London and Paris.

Since the flights from Brussels are very disadvantageous this time (bad flight times or expensive fares), I plan to fly from Schiphol (Qatar Airways) or Heathrow (Thai – almost 300 euros pp cheaper than from Brussels – or Qatar Airways).

Qatar Airways is the cheapest at all these airports, but the departure time at 8 am is not feasible, especially if you know that you have to be at the airport 3 hours in advance. You will then arrive in BKK between 3 and 4 am…

My question is: who has experience with the Eurostar, the transfer from London to Heathrow and Heathrow airport? What are those experiences like?

Thanks in advance.

Daniel M.

What are your preferred flight dates?

      Dear French Amsterdam,

I had searched for departure on Tuesday 5 December and that is what my question was about.
This morning I found a much better solution: departure from Brussels on Wednesday 6 December 🙂

But imagine… You never know… And there may be other readers who are also interested in this. I would still like to know, because Thai Airways has a direct flight that departs from Heathrow in the evening at 21:35 and is almost 300 euros pp cheaper than from Brussels…

You don't have to go back?

I personally don't find this very interesting. Cost price Eurostar is still from
Brussels minimum 80 euros for a return. Then you arrive in London St Pancras. The cheapest way to the airport is the metro. You have a direct connection to London Heathrow with the Piccadilly line, but count on a travel time of 50 minutes. Also keep in mind that if you are not familiar with London and you will have to search, the time will increase. The metro line is always very busy, often stand up in the central part of the city, and then with your luggage! http://www.heathrow.com/transport-and-directions/underground
Then you might be better off booking a flight with BA or Brussels airlines from Brussels to London?

Try the link below, there are so many options from various airports.
I have registered with skyscanner and receive the price every day.

I then fly the opposite way with Emirates over Dubai, but for 528 euros per person, if I had waited 1 week longer this would have been 516 euros. But could also get a ticket for 451 euros.

Aeroflot from Russia is also good and easy to do, you only have 1 stopover on a return from Amsterdam.

    Succes

Let's do a quick search: there was recently an article that you can fly from London with British Airlines to Bangkok for an acceptable price with, I believe, Brussels (or Amsterdam). The part of Brussels (or Amsterdam) is then included in the price of the ticket (therefore free).

Have you ever checked with Eurowings from Cologne? Is direct flight to BKK

We have often traveled to Bangkok via London Heathrow. There are plenty of flights between Brussels and London Heathrow, which is less than an hour's flight. In London you do have to change terminals, but that is very well signposted and it goes smoothly. No lugging suitcases on a possibly overcrowded Eurostar train.

    Allen,

Since my wife is Thai and we have quite a bit of luggage (gifts for family to Thailand - food and other things - including from Chatuchak market - from Thailand), 30kg checked luggage is a must. That is why many airlines – such as Brussels Airlines and British Airways – do not meet our criteria.

For those who doubt it: we will be back in January and have therefore indeed booked a “round trip”. So the prices are indeed round trip pp

A concrete example with Thai Airways according to cheaptickets.be earlier this week:
Outward on 05.12.2017 and back on 18.01.2018:
    BRU 13:10 – 06:10 BKK / BKK 00:30 – 07:00 BRU = about 840 euros pp;
    LHR 21:35 – 16:00 BKK / BKK 00:15 – 06:20 BRU = about 570 euros pp
These prices may have been slightly adjusted in the meantime. Enough time to take the Eurostar more easily and cheaper and see a bit of London. The downside is the British pound – unless you can pay by card (which I don't know). I do not know about the situation for holders of a Thai passport and do not have a Belgian or Dutch ID card.

For the sake of completeness I should add that today I booked 'cheap' flights from Brussels with Qatar Airwys, but departing on a different date.

So departure or arrival one or more days earlier or later can make a huge difference in price and flight times. I found out this morning that Qatar Airways departs from Brussels at 16:55 pm on Wednesdays. On Tuesdays that is at 8:00 am, which is not feasible for me. What is not feasible on Tuesday, is in this case the best option on Wednesday. Just to give an example.

Yet it can be very interesting for some to depart from London.

But any feedback is still welcome. I believe there may be some interesting tips there.

    Thank you in advance.

Well Daniel, I hope it all goes well. If you have such a question again, please indicate your complete package of requirements and your wishes, and ask the question a little on time. Now you have already booked before it is clear what the intention is. Perhaps the readers/commentors would also like to know which data it has become and for what price. Good trip!

December 3 there, and January 19 back, from Brussels directly with Thai Airwais for € 653.13 pp might also have been a nice option.

      Dear,

December 3 is a Sunday and then there is very little public transport in Belgium and Brussels – especially in the morning. That's why I avoid departures and arrivals during the weekends. The price is indeed more attractive than during the week, but part of that advantage is then lost due to the almost necessary use of an expensive taxi.

So it has become December 6 and January 19 with Qatar Airways for only 550 euros pp, incl. cancellation insurance. The departure is in the late afternoon, so we can sleep in for a long time in the morning 🙂 It was the cheapest and cheapest flight of all I found with departures / arrivals in Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris and London.

For the interested aircraft experts and laymen:
Thai Airways flies between BRU and BKK with the brand new Airbus A350. So far I have only heard positive comments about it.

The Qatar Airways flight to Bangkok has a transfer in Doha. That would be a wonderful airport. I saw videos of it on YouTube yesterday.
So we have to take 4 planes (2 outward and 2 back) and there are no less than 3 different types: BRU-DOH and DOH-BRU with the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (the competitor of the Airbus A350); DOH-BKK with the Boeing 777-300 and BKK-DOH with the Airbus A380-800 'Superjumbo'. Might be interesting for someone who would like to try out all these types.

I often read with amazement all the (im)possibilities mentioned here to get to Bangkok. Too little checked baggage, long transfer times, first to London, all unnecessary things in my opinion. Until now I have always flown with Eva. Lots of luggage allowed, direct flight (I think it's very important), favorable flight times and more. Then the price, easy to book for less than € 600, I think the choice is simple, right? For our Flemish friends, Eva has a VIP van that runs between Brussels via Antwerp to Schiphol and stops right in front of the right door at no extra cost. And for those who are willing to pay, for a reasonable amount more, the Elite Class, more space and even more luggage. For me the ideal society.

€ 694.30 for the desired dates. Not bad, but not 'easy for less than €600'.

      Dear,

I have indeed considered the option with EVA Airways.

I have already flown with EVA Airways between Vienna and Bangkok and back (of course including the connecting flights to/from Brussels – then alone and without the required 30kg luggage) and I was satisfied with that too. During the return, arrived in Vienna in the morning, then visited the city and then took the connecting flight to Brussels in the evening. Beautiful day in November and beautiful city.

As you could already read, we live in the Brussels region. One of the options was departure and check-in in Brussels South and with the Thalys (included in the price) to Schiphol and then with Eva Air to Bangkok. Back the same, but in reverse order. Apart from Qatar Airways, this was also the cheapest option via Schiphol for almost 700 euros per person. The only - and biggest - problem was that when you return you will arrive in Brussels-South at 23:30 PM (not counting the delay) and then there will be no more public transport… Moreover, I don't think it is safe there at all (… ).

But I find your tip about that VIP van very interesting - I knew nothing about it - and can therefore also be very useful for other readers.

      Thanks for this tip!
