I fly with Emirates to Bangkok. Must transfer in Abu Dhabi. Never done that before. Can someone tell me exactly how and if there is a video of it?

Don't be afraid there are good air-hostes who guide you. You probably have to take the train to Hal 2 in Abudhabi. But time was good and well signposted.
With Emirates you do not transfer in Abu Dhabi but in Dubai. You will receive 2 boarding passes upon departure, one for departure here and one for departure in Dubai. This already shows the time you have to check in and usually also the gate where you leave. You don't have to worry about your luggage, it will be labeled according to its destination.

Maybe I don't understand / read it correctly, but don't you have to switch to Dubai International for Emirates?
I will also try this for the first time in late July, with Air Berlin and Etihad (590). But there is a video on youtube, search for 'transfer to Abu Dhabi'. Or follow the transit-passengers signs seems the most logical to me. Good trip.
With Emirates you transfer in Dubai, not in Abu Dhabi!
How? Just after leaving the plane through the security check, then look at the board from where your next flight departs and then make sure to be at the relevant gate in time. Done about ten times now. Do not always find the signage in Dubai very clear, by the way, but it is not necessary to get lost.

Miel, there's no gate number on your ticket. There is also no gate number on the boarding pass that you already receive in Amsterdam for the Dubai – Bangkok route. For that you have to look at the signs in Dubai.

If you have to transfer in Abu Dhabi, you probably fly with Ethihad and not with Emirates. Emirates flies from Dubai. In both cases there are enough people ready to show you the way, make sure you have the correct flight number as sometimes several flights leave for Bangkok around the same time.

Transfers are no different than any other major international airport.
You will probably have already received your boarding card for the route Dubai to Bangkok when you check in in the Netherlands. It already says on which Gate (A, B, C etc) – maybe not yet the number.

It changes almost automatically. As soon as you step off the plane, staff will be waiting to ask you where you are going. In your case Bangkok. An airport staff member then takes the whole group to the correct terminal.

A layover in Abu Dhabi? Emirates flies to Dubai, right? Or are you flying with Etihad?

Emirates is via Dubai (Ethihad is Abu Dhabi). You will receive your Dubai boarding pass in Amsterdam. In the plane you can already see at which gate you need to be in Dubai. In Dubai you follow 'transfers' and you go through the check 1 more time and you can go to your gate. So you don't have to go to a counter or anything. Depending on the crowds, our experience will take no more than half an hour, well organized, clear and nothing to worry about! Points itself all by itself.
I fly 2 times a year with Emirates to Thailand and transfer to Dubai
The transfer is very easy, well indicated and you do not have to worry about the suitcase, already done more than 10 times, no problems

As soon as you get off the plane in Abu Dhabi (or Dubai), just follow the signs and they are very clearly marked. Your luggage will automatically go to your new flight, so you don't have to do anything about it.
I think you still have to go through customs 1x, but after that you are right in the tax-free section and you can go find your gate for your new flight. Have a nice trip.

You leave the plane. You are in transit. But you will go through the check again. Your hand luggage will be checked again, just like at Schiphol. There, too, you will see on the signs which gate you need to go to. Your bags are labeled by those you will only see it in Bangkok. Transfer with Emirates in Abu Dhabi ???
Emirates flies to Dubai and Etihad to Abu Dhabi.
transferring is no problem at all, just take into account a minimum of 1,5 hours transfer time to be comfortable.
I recently had a 45 minute transfer time in Doha with Qatar Airways and it was really running and walking with nervous staff following me!

If you fly from Amsterdam to Bangkok with Emirates, you transfer in Dubai and not in Abu Dhabi.
Without delay you have enough time to stretch your legs at the airport. Everything is well marked there and you don't have to worry about your hold luggage. If you are delayed (too much) from Amsterdam and therefore miss your flight, Emirates will arrange for you to transfer to another flight. Happened to me recently. Even after overbooking on the next flight to Bangkok, my delay was so bad that I ended up only being delayed for 2 hours.

Well from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, you make it complicated though. First from Amsterdam to Dubai, then transfer to Abu Dhabi, then transfer to Dubai and then transfer to Bangkok…….. or is something wrong with you?

I flew with Etihad via Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi not as well organized as in Dubai. It's very chaotic. But just ask for the right gate and you can't go wrong. Make sure your watch is set to the local time.

I have read all the responses to your question and only in 1 response have I read that when leaving the ETIHAD aircraft in ABU DHABI you must follow the direction indicators to the TRANSIT ZONE. Once in that zone, go to a panel that lists all departing flights and the GATE where they depart. So you look for your flight ETIHAD from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok on that panel. Personally, I write this immediately on your boarding pass for that flight. You have already received that boarding pass at the ETIHAD check-in desk upon departure. Then you have to go through a security check of yourself and your hand luggage. Once through this, you will proceed to the departure gate of your flight to Bangkok. You don't have to worry about your large suitcase: it will be transferred from one Etihad aircraft to another by the authorized personnel in Abu Dhabi. You will find that suitcase in Bangkok after passing the Immigration check. Good advice: make sure you get to the security check at Abu Dhabi airport well in time, because it can sometimes be very busy there!
