Home » Reader question » Reader Question: Where on Koh Samui can I buy Imodium or something similar?
Dear readers,
Am in Thailand (Koh Samui) for the first time. To tackle intestinal problems we had brought along Imodium tablets. Now that both me and my wife continue to have problems, I would like to know what the remedy is for the ailment that I can purchase freely at the pharmacy. The Imodium is running out!
Regards,
Wim
Just ask at the pharmacy. They do know that.
However, if such problems persist, it may also be advisable to seek medical advice.
Available at any Pharmacy. No problem.
The drug is called Disento, available at any pharmacy in strips of 4 tablets. Works great.
Ask at the pharmacy if they know this drug, otherwise ask for a drug that contains loperamide. This is the active substance in Imodium.
It is best to take something that restores the intestinal flora. With imodium, the bacteria remain in your body and that is not good. Try Bioflor and you'll be better immediately. Also drink plenty of water, of course. Good luck
hello i once bought some colodium in thailand it is called the same as imodium cost no turd was very good buy then, making salt with sugar water is a kind of ors, good luck
Hans is indeed right. Disento and then also buy a kind of saline solution. It says Dechamp on the orange / yellow bag. You should always have both with you. It costs almost nothing. Works really well and has no side effects like the imodium pills. If you take these, your stool will become too thick.
If it continues...
Source of bacterial ? dealing with contamination…. That's number ONE. !!
Food ? Drinking water ? Water tanks or well?
Good luck. Greetings from SL
Indeed: if the symptoms persist, you have to find the cause!
Medical consultation recommended anyway after 'incessant' diarrhoea; sito presto!
Can be bacteria but also virus, don't take a risk and see a doctor.
The chance of dehydration is already high, so start by drinking plenty of fluids.
Tip: eat well-cooked and salty soup ;~)
long-term use of imodium is strongly discouraged; if diarrhea does not stop, consulting a doctor is a must.
The best thing is “Disento” is available almost everywhere, after 1 day everything is over.
Start drinking boiled water or from supermarket bought and closed bottles where the wrapper is still undamaged.
Try only with lean chicken soup and then HOT and not cooled and reheated.
Keep away from roadside stalls.
And further biscuits also stop.
Advice WATCH what you eat. Everything wants to come out again.
Stop Imodium after a course of 6 tablets per week. If it is not over then better go to the hospital.
Wim, ask the pharmacy for a drug with the active ingredient Loperamide hydrochloride or Loperamide HCL for short. Usually, a tablet has 2mg of active substance and the rest is filler. For adults, the maximum daily dose is 16 mg.
Success with it.
6 tablets a day for a week is too much. Normal is 2 to 3 days
If you have the problem for more than two days, it is better to consult a doctor. You may have a little more than a traveler's diarrhea that normally lasts after a day or two.
Get well soon,
Rienie
When you have diarrhea, it means there's something in your gut that needs to get out. Imodium only stops this. So it is better not to swallow anything (if the diarrhea is manageable) and drink a lot to avoid dehydration. Possibly buying ORS at the pharmacy or drinking cola can also help against dehydration (mixture of water, sugar and salt).
In case of long-term complaints, go to the doctor.
Loperamide is the active substance in drugs such as Immodium and is simply available everywhere.
Incidentally, it is not a medicine, but more the chemical equivalent of a cork in your butt……… Do not continue to swallow in case of persistent complaints, but go to a doctor / hospital.
Getting sick might be a better option. The mess has to go!! But that's a personal opinion of a non doctor. If you have to travel, swallowing a 'stopping agent' is of course an option and, as described above, is widely available in Thailand.
When we are in Thailand we use Dicento and it helps very well with stomach complaints and quickly. And costs almost nothing at the pharmacy in Thailand.
Stick to the intestinal pills, drink well otherwise it is disastrous for your intestines.
just at a pharmacy
they are from the Janssen imodium brand, it says on the packaging on one side, the other side in Thai
is in loperamide HCI 2mg per capsule 6 pieces 49 bht hopefully it will help you
How would you like to pay a visit to the hospital then you will at least get an examination and it might be an intestinal infection and you have to deal with it first better than walking to the pharmacy Wim because it can be worse than you think enough have ended up in the hospital for these kinds of things so be careful with what you eat, they also have excellent hospitals in Koh Samui, because it can ruin your holiday.
Best wishes and have a nice holiday.
Logoperamide is a horse drug, you should only use it if you suffer from diarrhea and have to make a flight or long train journey; if not, let the mess blow out. If the diarrhea persists then consult a doctor. You can't play with this. Think about supplying moisture.
If ORS, Oral Rehydration Salt, is not available you can make it yourself:
8 level teaspoons of sugar (8 sugar cubes).
1 level teaspoon of salt.
1 liter of water.
Success.
