Have your Thai girlfriend's birth certificate legalized?
Dear readers,
I intend to marry my Thai girlfriend here in the Netherlands. She has been living with me in the Netherlands for a few years now. Now we have a problem with her birth certificate. According to the official at the town hall, we can only have these translated and legalized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in BKK.
Is that correct? And does she have to do this personally? Or are there other roads that lead to Rome?
Regards,
Rob
Editors: Do you have a question for the readers of Thailandblog? Use it contact form..
Yes, the birth certificate may not be older than three months, have it legalized with an authorized translation at Foreign Affairs (Chaeng Wattana) in Bangkok and finally at the Dutch embassy.
I don't know if someone else can do that, but someone can check that on the relevant amphoe. .
Dear Rob,
I got married 1,5 years ago, and at the town hall they basically already have the birth certificate/proof of unmarried status in the system, because she was probably registered with it when she came to live in the Netherlands and was registered in your municipality. We have had no problems with that, and indeed it was confirmed by the municipality that they had a copy of these documents. Hopefully this information will help you.
Daniel
Dear Rob, if I were you I would first contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, if you have the correct papers with stamps, because I also had something that the official advised to have done in Bangkok, but arrived there I am told that I had to go to the counter of foreign affairs in The Hague.
Because in my opinion an embassy is an extension of foreign affairs.
I'm going to have my girl call. Thank you all for the help!
We got married in The Hague over 10 years ago. When my wife and daughter came to live here at the time, their official papers (translated and legalized) were kept by the foreign deeds department for a while to process them correctly in the GBA. So when we wanted to get married later, all the documents required in the Netherlands were printed and processed at the touch of a button. Went very smoothly thanks to the municipality of The Hague.
Things have changed in recent years. Thanks to the many sham marriages.
Dear Rob,
It may be a contributing cause, but the point here is that the government wants proof of singleness, since one no longer has a sweet smile.
That of sham marriages has been affected many years ago, especially after people used cat catchers to try to bring Thais to Europe.
No, it's not true.
There is a translation agency in the Netherlands (Lelystad?). She also has it legalized.
Do you have an address or link?
In October 2012 she (a Thai lady) had my Dutch birth certificate translated and had it legalized in The Hague.
I forgot her name.
I searched the internet today, but to no avail.
I know she lived near Lelystad.
Later I saw her at various Thai festivals and also once when the Thai women's volleyball team was in the Netherlands.
Too bad I forgot her name now.
So I can't send a link at the moment.
Sorry about that.
Do you mean this lady?
https://www.suwannaphoom.nl/nl
Yes Eric. It is her.
Thanks for passing on.
My thanks are great!
In Bangkok there are companies that arrange everything for you.
Look on google and write an email about what it costs.
Don't forget if they ask for your original birth certificate never send it to them. If it is lost you will never get an original back.
Good luck.
We can't go to Thailand for a while unfortunately))
