Call: We are looking for a Dutch speech therapist in Thailand
Dear readers,
We are a Dutch couple of 70+. We have been living in Thailand (Pattaya, Jomtien) since 2006.
My wife had a cerebral infarction on November 20 and is currently being nursed at the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. Among other things, her ability to speak has disappeared, although she is already babbling a bit, but largely unintelligible. She also recognizes the faces.
If the main problems of the infarction come under control, then speech therapy in the Dutch language will become important in the entire rehabilitation process. I want to start doing that as soon as possible. Her motor skills will probably be treated here in the hospital.
There are all kinds of positive developments in the recovery process that make me decide to place this appeal.
The question is: is there an official Dutch speech therapist available somewhere in Thailand to take on this task.
Please contact Otto M. Wegner. My mobile phone number is 0847781778 or email address: [email protected]
Thank you very much for your help,
Otto Wegner
Just experienced the same with my father (we are still in the process). Substantial cerebral infarction with aphasia as a result (no paralysis, which is often associated with it). He has been in a temporary care home for weeks now and is doing a little better. So yes: you would do well to call in speech therapy. (But don't expect miracle results right away!)
Unfortunately I can't help you with a speech therapist in Thailand. If you can't find it, and you have the time yourself: search the internet for exercises to combat aphasia. There are quite a few examples in English (which you then have to convert to Dutch) with pictures and tests.
Take care and good luck!
sorry, I have experience with speech therapy after a stroke or infarction, it doesn't work.
don't throw money at it, because it's wasted money.
it takes a year to more or less repair the damage in the brain. take that time.
unfortunately you have to accept that it will never be the same as before, unless it is a very small one
trauma concerns.
Kind regards, Drs A…..
Drs A…… People are 70 years old, if it helps them a little why not. Don't be so negative, maybe it will help and they will be very happy again. What do they care about money at the moment, put yourself in their place. Too bad I don't know anyone myself.
Sorry Drs A, but it is unstylish to deprive people who have such problems of all hope, and made up too. Where do you get it. Drs in science? My wife had the same thing, could practically no longer speak, a cucumber had become “a long green thing”, stuttering, murmuring, etc. After six months of intensive guidance with 4 disciplines, including speech therapy, she has largely recovered. The aphasia never became 100% again, but she functioned fine again. Each case is of course different, but direct debit based on an e-mail is very short-sighted.
Good luck Otto and fight with your wife
Groet

I do know a recognized speech therapist, but unfortunately not in Pattaya.
The one I know lives in the Chiang Mai area.
I asked her today if she might know someone in your area, but unfortunately she couldn't help you any further.
Do not try yourself, but work with a speech therapist, self-medication can be counterproductive, she told me.

Hi response from a physiotherapist.
I don't know a speech therapist, perhaps an option to seek advice in the Netherlands. Exercises you can do yourself.
What I want to say in any case is that the first year of rehabilitation is the most to be achieved.
Don't be fooled by comments that therapy is pointless. a lot of practice and repetition is needed in such a rehabilitation process. And sometimes speaking is no longer possible and there are options with pictos
