Tear-jerking commercials in Thailand

Advertising generally falls into neat stereotypical categories, beer ads are funny, car ads are slick, men in household goods ads are stupid, and women in electronics ads are sharks.

Thailand has developed into a world leader in a special category: tearjerkers. The genre is so popular in Thailand that companies are commissioning special, long versions of tear-jerking commercials that can be as long as 5 or even more than 10 minutes. They are then mainly posted on YouTube and Facebook.

The Vizer company, which sells surveillance cameras, posted such a tearjerker – “there is more going on around you than you can see” – on August 27 and has since been viewed by 5,4 million people on Facebook and more than 3 million on Youtube.

  1. French Nico says up

It is indeed a tear-jerking commercial, although the quality of the directing leaves much to be desired. However, the goal has been achieved, even if just hanging a “surveillance camera” does not work preventively, just like the death penalty does not stop a murderer.
