For the first time last year there were more millionaires in Asia than in the United States. This is stated in a report by Capgemini SA and RBC Wealth Management, NOS.nl reports

In Asia, the number of people rose by at least a million dollars to 3,37 million. There were 3,35 million millionaires in the US and 3,17 million in Europe. Especially in China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia added more millionaires.

According to RBC Wealth Management, the shift in wealth shows that emerging economies in Asia continue to grow. In 2010, the report already stated that Asia would probably surpass the US as the continent with the richest people before 2013.

There were about 11 million millionaires worldwide last year. Their total fortune fell by 1,7 percent to $42 trillion. That's the first drop since 2008.
