New outing for tourists: Feed crocodiles on a raft
With a raft on a pond to feed hungry crocodiles. Chinese tourists love it and are not averse to some risk to experience this remarkable outing.
A crocodile farm in Pattaya offers this remarkable attraction within the grounds of the Elephant Kingdom. Pictures of the special boat trip soon appeared on social media. Many wondered if this was safe? A reason for the Thai government to visit the crocodile farm. Police, military and civil servants came to take a closer look. And guess what, the authorities thought it all looked good and solid.
The pond has two floating cages of five by 10 meters that are equipped with a motor and cables. The cages are about 1,5 meters high. Every day about 500 visitors come to the spectacle.
According to the owner, no tourists have disappeared in the mouth of a crocodile so far. Also Pol Maj Gen Amphol Buarabporn, chief of police in Chon Buri, said that the existing security measures were sufficient. He did, however, insist that the employees supervise the activities.
And? Do you have so much confidence in the Thai operator that you would also go on the raft?
Well not seen me, for no gold. My mom always said, "It's going well until it goes wrong."
Ah Khun As long as there are no mud-fat Farang Pompui floating with it, the raft won't capsize that quickly
Knowing Thai, I say in Flemish…. not now, not tomorrow, not never or not anytime soon…. With all Chinese but not with this one. Well, there are actually more Chinese than Flemish people and one less person is not immediately noticeable, I suspect.
I wouldn't stand on that raft with a fence around it. A crocodile can jump higher than this gate on its tail - you wouldn't be the first to be 'bitten' off its boat like that.
I took a good look at the construction and welding and it gave me chills, so you can wait for a new post on Thailand blog
Well, it is not as luxurious as "we" Westerners would prefer, with thickly upholstered benches. But personally I think it's cool this way, and I'm going to try it out in January when I'm back in Pattaya.
Good idea. When I see someone walking with only one arm in Pattaya, I know it's you.
It is striking that they do not wear orange life jackets.
Such an orange vest is certainly not good for the digestion of a crocodile !!!
In this way you can indeed ensure that fewer tourists go out
I think it would be cool to do something like this for once.
If I'm in Pattaya I'll probably consider it if it's not expensive.
Can I cross that off my to do before I die list?
Bungee jumping, swimming among the sharks (reef sharks that is), massaging an elephant with its leg, going down with a cable winch (Pattaya) and diving off a rock have already been canceled. That leaves hang gliding and skydiving as the top 2 on my list. (No, having your head in a crocodile's mouth is not on my wish list.)
I do think that the raft should be properly tested in connection with capsizing and inspected for soundness every so often. The raft doesn't look very solid from a distance.
What if suddenly 20 men decide to stand on one side, what happens then?
I don't want to think about what happens when suddenly 10 or 20 men are in the water.
Furthermore, I think they should consider a maximum number of people per raft and over 18 years old and keep a close eye on morons with a death wish or anyone who bends over to take a close-up with their camera, or decides to hand-feed . Then he probably lost his camera including hand or more.
Hans
Until a crocodile comes under the raft and things tip over I don't see I'd rather just die.
Very clever … in Thai style then …. to let crocodiles become the association of man and food ...., good for the next flood, that like last time the crocodiles went out ...., as a result of a real Crocodile search / hunt ...
The Thai government has now intervened: http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general/1037233/croc-farm-licence-suspended
I've seen it many times ad nauseam the last few days, the movie here on the Thai TV channels.
I said to my husband yesterday what would happen if the raft mounted on some old oil drums were to sink or capsize.
I think the crocs will have a feast of unprecedented magnitude.
Jan Beute.
Thai crocodiles don't like Chinese…..(wink)
A crocodile is able to jump high out of the water to catch its prey.
see the following message in front of me: Chinese devoured by Crocodiles, the tourist from China was feeding Crocodiles on a raft, when he wanted to take a Selfie with a Crocodile after feeding, it suddenly went wrong.
