No salary for Go go dancers

It just happens that you work almost naked every night and then get into trouble through no fault of your own. Thirty or so Walking Street dancers from a Go go bar filed a police complaint that their boss had not paid them and had disappeared.

The remarkable thing about this charge was that this man was a foreigner and people did not know what this man's name was and from what country. At least that's not what Pattaya Mail mentioned.

The angry employees of the Go go bar called the police to track down this unnamed foreigner and to examine the bar's books. According to one woman, speaking on behalf of the others, they worked on a 10-day contract with an income of 1.200 baht per day.

Payday was supposed to be October 14, but the boss told them that this time they had to wait until October 28 to receive their wages. However on the 28e October the “employer” had disappeared with the money. The staff, nearly 70, were not paid.

The curious reaction of the police was as follows: they would investigate the matter, but their complaint had to be lodged with the Chonburi Provincial Employment Office.

    Isn't that so strange?
I think it is the same in Holland.
In fact, it is a conflict between employees and their employer.
The employment office will then call the police if they cannot find a solution

But Thailand is not Holland. The Thai police often mediate, for example in determining the amount of compensation in the event of (injury) damage after collisions, not getting a refund of a deposit, compensation for damage caused to rented motorbikes or jet skis and therefore also when an employer does not pays. No judge involved. Undoubtedly, the relevant foreign 'employer' will be identified by the police in this matter. But the bird has flown, so nothing can be said about him. Perhaps the bar's inventory or trading stock will yield something. The mentioned salary of 1200 baht per day (night) seems very high to me.

My wife worked in the Jomtien-Pataya Police Department.
Often also sat on the street as a "tourist" agent.
The 1200 bath is indeed on the high side. The basis is often an 800 bath with 50% of the barfine and then the lady drinks.
However, there are also other forms depending on the “services”

My wife knows of a few and then I have it from before 2008 that people were already working there at a net rate of 70.000 baht per month.

the 1200 with a global 24 days per month (1 day off per week) you come to less than 30.000 per month.
So it depends on the contract. But the reality is that the police in Thailand do not deal with such matters. Must indeed go through the employment office in the first instance. Or via a lawyer (can be 1 of a trade union in the EU) to court for a civil technical case.

In Thailand no chance in this case. Especially if the name, place of residence and address of the employer are unknown.

What should I imagine with that contract, is it an employment contract signed by both parties or should I interpret it as an oral agreement? Undoubtedly there will be dancers in a Go go bar who generate a monthly income of 70.000 baht or even more by developing 'side activities', but this is basic salary, without share of the bar fine or commission of the lady drinks, on which many depend. of being to earn some money. And as I already noted, an amount of 1200 baht p / day seems very high to me. Of course also depending on the status of the relevant Go go bar, but I have heard from various people other and (much) lesser amounts as daily earnings. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong, it doesn't matter. With regard to the role of the police, I know from relatives of my partner that they turn to the police in the event of a difference of opinion about the level of the wages paid, or even no payment at all. The agent then contacts the employer for mediation. Even if the monthly repayment for a purchased motorbike on the basis of hire purchase is delayed, the police can intervene before proceeding with the recovery of the vehicle. Given the large scale of this case involving the Go go dancers, it is not surprising that the Pattaya police have advised that the complaint should also be submitted to another authority. The chance of success seems almost nil to me.

Strange case, this foreigner has a GO Go bar in the Walking Street, either leased or bought and the police do not know who this man is...? but every foreigner must still report to immigration...
          Strange ……

His Thai wife/girlfriend must have been used as a cover.
            However, they disappeared together.

The employer runs off and does not pay. Is something different than a conflict, more of a scam!

You got that absolutely right! But even in the case of fraud, they will still have to report it to the police. It goes without saying that in this case they also have to use other channels to try to get their salary paid.

No police investigation is appropriate in civil cases. Certainly not in the Netherlands, but not here either. As a group, hire a lawyer and file a civil claim. Perhaps the “boss” has already left the country and will soon be doing his trick somewhere else. Some people think this is smart business. A mentality of lick my cardigan is my opinion. If criminal offenses are discovered at the employment office, the police can be reported and investigate.

Of course their “employer” has not left a penny in TH, where their claim can be recovered.
So eventually issue an international arrest warrant. Must entail a lot of "administration costs" for the employment office, police, OM and all others who want to "eat along".
