Lounging and good food in a warm place

A travel organization asked Dutch people about their holiday wishes for 2013 and, not surprisingly, no less than 93% indicated that they would like a holiday with lots of sun in a nice warm place.

The Dutch would prefer to move our frog country, complete with its own food, music and love, to a sunny place elsewhere in the world.

Lounging and good food

More than 89% of the respondents want to be sure of sun! Lounging and drinking cocktails by the pool or on the beach are number one on the wish list (30%). Good food follows as number two, although few holidaymakers want to try new, local dishes, only 15% are up for this.

Having fun with the children and visiting local markets are also among the favorite activities of the Dutch on holiday.

Down-to-earth Dutchman's favorite holiday love

When it comes to holiday love, most respondents stick to their own country. The majority say they would prefer a down-to-earth Dutchman or Dutch as a holiday lover. Only 18% are also enthusiastic about a 'Tropical surprise' or a 'Greek God or Goddess' (15%).

Sing songs with Nick & Simon

Nick and Simon prove to be a popular holiday companion; 26% say they want to go on holiday with the duo, to 'cozily sing Dutch songs together'. A quarter would also like to spend a holiday with our brand new new royal couple. In third place is the duo of Doutzen Kroes and Sunnery James; 'enjoy VIP treatment everywhere' (19%).

Holiday anticipation

Fortunately, the anticipation can already begin: for many, the ultimate anticipation is the purchase of new summer clothing (this indicates a third). Furthermore, 27% already dream of wearing slippers. The smell of sunscreen gets 19% of holidaymakers in the mood! In addition, almost half of the respondents keep an eye on the weather forecast of the holiday destination well in advance of the trip.

No, it's all clear to me. The Dutch have hardly changed since the VOC era and remain an adventurous people who are not afraid of the unknown. In order not to be too exposed to the elements of the dark foreign countries, people still dump a mud of potatoes in the back of the Toyota Cruiser before traveling to the Italian Riviera, because you never know. Pasta every day isn't everything either 😉

In that respect, the Dutch are just like Thais who take rice everywhere with them because they cannot go a day without rice.
