75% take a tablet or laptop with them on holiday
The Dutch are going on holiday en masse this year with tablet and laptop. The tablet and e-reader in particular are displacing the familiar book and magazine.
This is the conclusion of a survey by Zoover among 1700 holidaymakers. An old-fashioned dice is only thrown by 37% of the Dutch during vacation.
Laptop makes way for tablet
We go on vacation and take with us: electronics. A mobile phone is almost indispensable in everyday life, 91% take it with them on holiday. The laptop is left at home slightly more often than last year. Instead, the Dutch take a tablet with them much more often. 12% more than last year. This means that more than half of holidaymakers have a tablet with them.
Of course we share our holiday experiences via social media and read the news, but we increasingly use the tablet to orient ourselves on the activities and fun outings in the vicinity of our holiday address.
We read more and more digitally on holiday
Is there no more reading on holiday? Yes, enough reading material for Dutch holidaymakers! 51% take a physical book with them in their luggage and another 37% take a digital book with them. Magazines are also read on holiday: 47% still take the magazines with them in their suitcase. Nevertheless, the share of books, magazines and paper travel guides is decreasing rapidly. The tablet and the digital book take over many of these functions.

Only 11% do not think WiFi is important when choosing a holiday
With all the electronic equipment that we carry with us, there must of course be a decent internet connection. 79% of the respondents say that they take the presence of WiFi into account when choosing accommodation. Only WiFi at the reception is not enough, because 77% want WiFi on the entire site of the accommodation.
What do you take with you on holiday to Thailand?
I don't go on holiday to Thailand anymore, because I live there now. But when we go on holiday somewhere in Thailand (or abroad), I take my smartphone, tablet and e-book reader with me as electronic devices. These three replace my books, laptop and in many cases, photo device. and save a lot of space. Now I could use my tablet as an e-book reader, but it reads much more pleasantly on a reader with e-ink. And the device is super light, consumes hardly any power and doesn't distract you from playing games or doing other things. The 500 or more books on my e-book reader weigh less than a paper book!
I find WiFi useful, if only to look up information about connections or places of interest. Especially here in Asia, I rely more on the internet than recommendations from people I meet.
I try to bring as few modern devices as possible. I'm on holiday!! Bringing a laptop just means your boss gets the chance to let you work in between the holidays. I don't check email, facebook etc don't work well on my Thai phone number. 2 people know how to reach me in an emergency. I can take 30 kg of luggage with me and then it is very easy to take a second-hand booklet with me. Making donkey ears under the Thai sun. Delicious!!!
