A majority of Thais want the country's state of emergency lifted now that the Covid-19 situation has improved, but most want the curfew and bar closures to be maintained, according to a poll by the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida Poll).

The poll was conducted on May 11 and 13 among 1.259 people aged 18 and over, conducted across the country (different levels of education and occupation). A majority of 57,74% of respondents want the state of emergency lifted, as there are virtually no infections left and people of different professions can resume their work. Of them, 35,98% strongly agreed with the proposal and 21,76% agreed moderately.

Some 15,15% oppose the proposal to lift the state of emergency, of which 25,74% strongly oppose it because they fear a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The rest, 1,35%, had no comment or were not interested.

The large group of Thais do not even know what the virus does.
Just look at their way of social distancing.
    They live in a democracy…..

What does this claim mean? Is that a fact? Did you conduct research?

When will this hysteria stop? It's getting more and more
It is clear that the coronavirus is not that deadly at all. However, it is becoming more and more
clear that the consequences of the extreme measures are much, much worse than the consequences of the
virus. One example, in India more than 400.000 people die every year from TB. Transmissible through the same route as the coronavirus. A lock down was never considered.
In Thailand there are 50 traffic casualties DAILY. Total number of deaths from corona 58 so far. Etc. Etc.
I'm really worried but not about corona itself.

I agree with the majority. Sensible people, many of whom have the water on their lips and cannot continue like this. That wave that wreaked havoc in Thailand turned out to be of a different order than the Phuket tsunami. I would, however, take temporary measures to protect the elderly and the weak in society. This target group is most at risk. Of course continue to strive for disciplinary behavior. So the brakes on alcohol and keeping the bars nicely closed and tapering down, this humanity is well served by that.

Yes, agree, the craziness is even increasing now that there is hardly any virus left in Thailand. Yesterday to terminal 21 in Pattaya : Check in with the phone at the entrance, once inside each store check in again with the phone, spray hands again.

At the food court : girls behind the till behind thick glass plates, checking in again, no cutlery, no trays, no tissues, all orders are delivered for take away. Then you can take a seat at a table per person, or in pairs at a large table with a diagonal layout.

Insane situation of course considering that couples generally live together and share the bed, it's just absurd.

These measures might have made sense with 100+ cases a day, but we've been at almost zero for ages. The fear and the madness must stop sometime, but how you can get politics to do so is a mystery to me.
