Call it a snack bar, sandwich shop or just a Slidewich Corner. It is a point of sale for oblong sandwiches, topped with a salad or meat products. The buyer sees what he buys and sees what he eats. An honest sandwich without unnecessary filling of lettuce leaves, tomatoes, mayo and the like. Supplied in an open and elongated cardboard box, so that the sandwich can be pushed in while walking if desired.

The Slidewich is a new concept devised by a number of Dutch business people, with which people initially think of 40 - 50 points of sale in Bangkok. Remember that a Slidewich Corner should be designed where large numbers of people pass, such as in or near Skytrain and subway stations, shopping malls, office buildings, entertainment centers, gas stations, etc.

Less than 10 square meters is needed for a Slidewich Corner. There is no need for tables and chairs that take up space. A space for sales and a space for preparation is sufficient to get started. Inside or outside.

Franchise

The organization is now looking for people who want to operate a Slidewich Corner on a franchise basis. With a minimal investment, everyone can get started quickly without worrying about purchasing, promotion and supply. The Slidewich organization takes care of that. The manager only needs to spread and invest the sandwiches and sell them.

The product

The "open" Slidewiches come from the best bakers in Bangkok and are topped with homemade salads in European style. In addition, the Slidewich can also be invested with, for example, cheese or meat products, again without frills. It is a sandwich without surprises, you see what you get and eat and are very affordable. People don't have to think long or discuss whether they want to spend a very large amount for a sandwich. A Slidewich is therefore often an impulse purchase.

Interest

A Slidewich Corner means fast, top quality trade with a good profit margin, a good idea for someone who wants to start a business in Thailand.

A kind of Subway but a little different?

  2. Leo Eggebeen says up

Only problem maybe; I have never seen a Thai eat standing or walking. Is "not done" in Thailand.

    • Martin Vlemmix says up

Leo…certainly some truth in it. But what 'is not done' can certainly come.
10 years ago, Thais hardly drank any coffee, for example, now you stumble across the coffee shops… full of Thai people. But will Idd first be the Ferang who will set the example

Best of luck to the initiators.

    • Martin Vlemmix says up

Thank you Koen….already 12 registrations from people interested in starting. After all, that's where it starts...

Apparently, the Dutch initiators have not, or not sufficiently, investigated Thai food culture. Since, as Leo says, it is not done standing or walking for Thai food. Maybe aimed at the tourist maybe. I wonder what the Unique Selling Point is. Isn't this about an ordinary sandwich packaged in a handy way? Nevertheless, I wish the Dutch initiators good luck!

The human mind continues to enable us to do incredible things. This is definitely a memorable example.
We already knew bread, but a roll, elongated and even cut open, makes my heart beat faster. You can see what you eat! Unless you put it in a closed box of course. But that's where the innovative knowledge economy comes in again: An open box! The Slidewich opens boxes that normally remain closed for you.
Lettuce leaves, tomatoes, mayonnaise and the like are professionally served under the motto 'unnecessary'.
Creative minds have made the discovery of the century, you can top the sandwich with salad, cheese, or even meat.
Well, if MKB Thailand organizes a drink again, I would like to come and taste it, but I will of course bring a reference sandwich.

Ha Frans… still really a Dutchman. Frikandel sandwich…
Of course, a slidewich frikandel will also be on the menu for you.
But from a technical point of view it is a bad choice because almost only Dutch people know and eat it.
Compared to the 20.000 Dutch people who live here, there are 67 million Thais.

As far as I know this is a recipe that has been used for years.

I myself ate this variation in the 90s in Amsterdam and frequently in Maastricht.

Nevertheless, good luck with this product development in Thailand.

    • Martin Vlemmix says up

Ha Pete.. it is almost always a variant, but not the same.

In any case, most people already know bread and fillings and they don't have to get used to that anymore.
So normally the startup is faster

They will have to compete against Piza Company and Hut plus KFC plud McDonalds which Thais love. Not on spread and stale sandwiches. Is not a bread-eating people.

    • Bert says up

In our neighborhood there is one with sandwiches in the morning.
      Also freshly made.
Estimate that he sells more than 6 between 9 and 100 o'clock.
Neatly packaged and the topping is kept refrigerated.

Gives the citizen courage again...... Thank you for the info

    • Martin Vlemmix says up

Idd, Theo, the Thai are not (yet) known for eating a lot of bread. But if you look around, there are more and more bakeries where many bread snacks are sold.

There are even special fairs for bread supplies and machines in Bangkok.
      So it is emerging…..

  9. nicole says up

As already described above, you will not easily see a Thai eating while walking or walking. And as Theo says, there is already a lot of competition from Western snacks.
from sweet to salty. and from cold to warm. I have heard that one sells French fries on the street in Bangkok, which seems to be a great success, but sandwiches…. I have reservations about it.
And then there is the problem that it is not that easy to start a business just like that. Unless, of course, a Thai partner wants to try this.

    • Martin Vlemmix says up

      Hi Nicole..

No.. you can't just start a business as a foreigner.
But that has nothing to do with the sandwiches.
Do it together with your Thai partner in her or his name, for example
Or first really start your “own” company, of course, but that is also with a Thai 51% partner.

Whether the slidewich will really work is of course always the question and is ultimately decided by the consumer who wants something different.
As a businessman you also have to have reservations and assess risk... but in the end, time and the efforts of the salespeople will tell.

I immediately sent an email yesterday and asked for information, but I don't think he is a Dutchman behind it, but a Thai, "no answer yet".
Or so many responses have come in that they first have to be sorted out.

    • Martin Vlemmix says up

Dear Tom…. there is a Dutchman behind it who will answer all the people who have reserved today.
With more than 12 registrations and also my regular work, it takes a while.

So a little more Thai patience from you… please

      .
