Corbion, formerly CSM (Central Sugar Company), is a Dutch food group that originated from the sugar beet industry. CSM produced and distributed many types of bakery products and ingredients for craft and industrial bakeries and for other markets. In addition, the company produces a variety of lactic acid applications for the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. In July 2013, the bakery activities were sold.

The company is now fully focused on the bio-ingredients divisions Purac and Caravan and will continue under the new name Corbion.

Corbion is a market leader in lactic acid and lactic acid derivatives such as ingredients and supplements for shelf life extension of food, cosmetics, solvents, biodegradable plastics, pharmaceutical and medical applications. The demand for lactic acid products (a product made from fermented sugar) is increasing by approximately 10% per year.

The lactic acid division built a lactide plant in Rayong, which became operational at the end of 2011. It involved an investment of 45 million euros. The lactide made from lactic acid is a raw material for polylactic acid, degradable bioplastics. The factory has an annual capacity of 75.000 tons.

Corbion has a global workforce of 1885, of which 210 work in Thailand.
