Tourists and others flying to Chiang Mai International Airport soon should note that some flights will be canceled or moved due to the Yi Peng festival (part of Loy Krathong).

Thousands of hot air balloons are released during the Yi Peng festival. These can pose a danger to air traffic. Between 13 and 15 November, a total of 15 flights will be canceled and 36 departures at a different time.

Hot air lanterns are allowed on Monday and Tuesday from 19.00:1.00 PM to 10.00:24.00 AM. The gas lanterns only on Mondays from XNUMX am to midnight.
