Thai convicted in Belgium commits suicide in cell
Sararat K., the 36-year-old Thai who was sentenced to 23 years in prison earlier this week in Belgium, has committed suicide by hanging herself in her cell in Bruges prison.
Sararat killed her partner Marc Clauwaert (19) on August 2010, 47 in Ostend after an argument.
The Thai woman has been living in Belgium since 2002. During that period she had twelve different partners and also worked as a prostitute. In the spring of 2010 she met Marc in a massage parlor in Deinze. However, the relationship was not a success and there was a lot of disagreement all the time. An argument on August 19, 2010 was fatal to Marc. During a skirmish, Sararat stabbed the man with a knife. The victim died shortly afterwards.
Examination revealed the woman to be mentally unstable. The suicide also came as no surprise to her lawyer, who had already made several attempts.
Sad story, but I don't understand that if you have done research and know that this woman was mentally unstable and has already made several suicide attempts, you will still have the opportunity to commit suicide again.
Given her past, shouldn't this woman have been committed to a psychiatric institution at an earlier stage?
correct dude,
I find this sad as a Belgian and as a resident of Thailand and a resident of Belgium with a Thai wife and a Thai child. However, they checked her cell every 15 minutes, but did she know that after 3 years in prison and sentenced to 23 years she only had 4 more years in prison? 1 third must be served and the rest may be on probation.
This makes me really sad
Kidney
I'm sorry, but I can't arouse too much pity in myself for this murderess.
I feel more sorry for the murdered Marc.
It's hard to form an opinion when you don't know the backgrounds.
It is already questionable to marry a prostitute who is also mentally unstable. With a little knowledge of human nature, you will soon notice this.
But this is just my humble opinion.
Every story has 2 sides and judging only on reports in the press is not fair! And maybe that Marc was just the wrong person. And the history of women? Hardly any woman enters prostitution voluntarily!
Don't forget that many Thai people have a huge fear of ending up in prison.
Their perception of a prison is that of the home country, and as we know prison life in Thailand cannot be compared to the paradises in Europe.
In this specific case – based on what the media reported about it – it should be clear that this lady was indeed suicidal, and that there is a psychiatric problem. Then there was a misinterpretation of the court.
Condolences to the family and friends of all actors in this drama.
For your information: a short summary of the assize process…
Bruges Assizes: Sararat Khaengraeng guilty of manslaughter
Friday 24 January 2014 at 07:28 am
Bruges - The Thai killed her partner on August 19, 2010 in their home in Ostend with a knife stab.
Sararat Khaengraeng met the victim in the spring of 2010 in a Thai massage parlor in Deinze. He paid her debts and together they went on a trip to Thailand for a while. When they returned home, the couple quarreled more and more often. The alcohol addiction of both partners played an important role in this.
On the evening of August 18, Khaengraeng and Clauwaert went together to the Ostend casino. That night a new argument arose at home. The accused grabbed a knife and plunged it into the victim's chest. After the facts, the Thai fled to her ex-boyfriend in Mechelen. She was arrested there the next morning. Marc Clauwaert was able to call the emergency services himself, but died that same night in hospital.
The defense had argued that Khaengraeng had no intention of killing her partner. The jury did not agree.

Well, there are men who fall for prostitutes, but inversely it would be more obvious. Although this is a statement that I do not fully support myself.
And if both the drink and the gambling devil are involved on the one hand or on the other, well then misery trumps. What begins with the best of intentions can turn into hatred and anger at the slightest spark, and in this case with the well-known results, which are rather rare.
Everyone knows a couple where drinking and gambling leads to marital problems.
In this situation there are 3 victims, the man in question, his partner, and the outsiders who are left behind in the mourning (family, friends, …).
Let these last live in peace, with the thought that the dead have been forgiven them all.
Following this from Buddhist principle seems quite acceptable to me.
Thai woman who committed suicide in cell cried out innocence in suicide note

Ostend – Sararat Khaengraeng left a haunting suicide note in her cell just before she ended her own life.

The Latest News knows that today. The Thai woman was sentenced to 23 years in prison last week for stabbing her friend Marc Clauwaert from Ostend. A fate she couldn't bear, especially since she insisted she never wanted his death.
It now appears that she also wrote this down verbatim in a farewell letter that was found in her prison cell. In an alternation of Thai and English, she opens her heart to the person, whoever that may be, who finds the letter. Literally it sounds like this:
“To X. I think, if you are reading this, I am no longer in this world. But I want to tell you something else. I don't want to leave this world until you and everyone know the truth. Now I know that there is no justice in this world. Not even if you believe. I thought that would be the only thing in the world that was there for everyone: if you believe, the truth will come out. In this letter of mine I want everyone to know that what has been done to me is not just. I now know that I didn't get the punishment I deserved. I never wanted to kill or hurt him. These are my last words. I want to say that to everyone before I leave this world. It means a lot to me. That is why I am writing this letter to you. Because I want you to tell everyone. Or let everyone know what the truth is. You know I can't sit here for another 3,5 years because I know the truth. I had hoped the court would give me a fair sentence. But now I know I can't have that. Can you help me? It is the last thing I ask of you.”

Such a letter makes her thinking a little clearer, if only to confirm what appears to be an unintentional fatality for the man (and therefore not, for example, premeditated murder). But repeatedly reaching for a weapon uncontrollably and emotionally gripped still creates culpable homicide. That's the way the law is, unfortunately fights often end unintentionally (with unintentional injury or death) but then you can't be acquitted for the consequences of your actions.
In the end, it was her regretful decision to take her own life rather than serve the sentence that the rule of law deems just. Jealousy, uncontrolled emotions etc. can destroy so much. No way out is pleasant: such as ending a relationship with a jealous partner, removing as many potential weapons - knives - from the house as possible or staying together under one roof in the hope that a future outburst of anger will not be fatal. will be… From the sidelines, the easiest choice is to end the relationship.
