The Thai government has lockdownmeasures extended by two weeks from Tuesday and sixteen provinces added to the dark red zone with maximum restrictions. This also has far-reaching economic consequences because the dark red zone covers more than 40 percent of the population and accounts for three quarters of the gross domestic product.

The CCSA will re-evaluate the situation on August 18 to assess whether a further extension is necessary, but that is expected. “It is very likely that the extension will last until August 31,” said CCSA spokesperson Apisamai.

Health experts agree that the high number of infections will continue to rise over the next two months if nothing is done.

The curfew and lockdown have been in effect since July 12 in Bangkok, the neighboring provinces of Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Pathum Thani and Nakhon Pathom and four southern provinces. Chonburi, Chachoengsao and Ayutthaya were added on July 20.

The sixteen provinces that now also turn dark red are: Ang Thong, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Kanchanaburi, Lop Buri, Phetchabun, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Prachin Buri, Ratchaburi, Rayong, Samut Songkhram, Saraburi, Sing Buri, Suphan Buri and Tak. In these provinces, the number of infections has increased significantly.

It is important for exports that factories and industry continue to function now that tourism has collapsed. Exports are now the main driver of the economy.

Prime Minister Prayut said at a CCSA meeting yesterday that the government has decided to import Sputnik V vaccines from Russia. The manufacturer has been asked to send the required documents to Thailand. The vaccine will be used to vaccinate frontline health workers

Prayut has also called on all government services to inform the population about the Delta variant in order to somewhat temper the fear of the virus.

That now their economy is collapsing completely. If you don't want to listen, feel.

Listen = lock up the old and the weak and let the virus blow for the rest. After a few weeks there is herd immunity. Just look at India with not many deaths compared to the number of inhabitants.

But sacrificing your economy to postpone deaths is just pointless.

The aid budget has been / will be extended until the end of August, so in 2 weeks we will see that part of the economy will be hit even more. And what does the government say? You can get loans on good terms. Those conditions concern the interest, but wasn't it the case that a loan also had to be repaid? A government that actively pushes people into debt can of course not be taken seriously, but patiently we will see what will happen.
