Thailand's Airport Authority (AoT) has said it will use the Advance Passenger Processing System (APPS) to check vaccination records of incoming airline passengers before arrival as the country resumes massive tourist arrivals from next month.

AoT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn says that with APPS, customs officials, airport and airline personnel and immigration police can view the profiles of passengers from their countries of origin. They can check if passengers are blacklisted or banned from leaving their country.

With the system, Thai authorities no longer need to conduct health screening of international arrivals. The AoT expects heavy passenger traffic at the six airports as five destinations in Thailand open their doors to tourists. According to the AoT, the APPS meets global standards to verify the authenticity of vaccination certificates. Authorities share passenger information so that passengers with the right profile can pass through immigration controls more quickly.

    “again en masse” ?????

They can forget about that en masse. Emirates has this week removed the A380 from the Dubai – Bangkok route and replaced it with the smaller B777. Still saves 100 passengers per flight, twice a day. Emirates does not do that because they expect crowds.

Adding information about Covid vaccination and test status (possibly other infectious diseases) to the passenger information that is already in the info package (Passenger Information System) could greatly facilitate international travel.

It would end the endless posturing about bilateral recognition of vaccination documents and ditto apps in one fell swoop. Consensus in all countries about the admissibility of fully vaccinated and negatively tested travelers must then become the standard.

And how long will it take for that (privacy-sensitive) data to be made public in Thailand?
Another case reported on this forum today.
