Bangkok will get its own Michelin guide in December this year. The guide is published in Thai and English. This has been announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

In the first edition, the focus will be on Bangkok, later editions will include restaurants from other Thai destinations.

Michelin's annual Red Guides contain a selection of hotels and restaurants. The hotels and restaurants are classified in terms of comfort and furnishings with cottages (for the hotels) and cutlery (for the restaurants), from one cottage/cutlery for simple occasions to five for the absolute luxury class. However, this classification is separate from the award of Michelin stars, because these are mainly related to the quality of the food.

Thailand is now the sixth country in Asia to receive its own Michelin guide, there are already guides for China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. According to Yuthasak Supasorn of the TAT, the guide will help local restaurants to be even more inspired to improve their quality and gastronomy.

Lionel Dantiacq, the president of Michelin East Asia and Oceania, said that Bangkok is one of the world's culinary capitals. In addition to the famous street food, there are also many top restaurants. Gaggan, which recently made it to the top ten best restaurants in the world, is perhaps the best known.
